PRESENT ANNUAL HOLIDAY CONCERT

MADISON AREA TECHNICAL COLLEGE SELECTS DR. BETTSEY BARHORST AS COLLEGE PRESIDENT AND CEO
Madison, WI . . .The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board today voted unanimously to select Dr. Bettsey L. Barhorst as the president and chief executive officer of the college. She will begin the position January 15, 2005. The announcement ends a national search that began nine months ago. see press release

MATC TRAINS MORE CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS
WITH ACCELERATED PROGRAM
Program addresses critical shortage in state for trained clinical laboratory technicians

To address a critical need for more trained clinical laboratory technicians in Wisconsin, Madison Area Technical College (MATC) has developed an accelerated Clinical Laboratory Technician program that allows students, particularly in rural areas, to complete a two-year degree in slightly over one year. Due to this program, the 10 individuals currently enrolled will be able to advance in or begin careers as clinical laboratory technicians following their graduation. An added benefit has been the transition of some of these students from the traditional program’s waiting list to the accelerated program, which allows more students to be accepted into the two-year program. see press release

SHANE O’DONNELL MEMORIAL FUND WILL HONOR MATC GRAD WHO DIED IN IRAQ; FAMILY OF FALLEN MARINE REQUESTS DONATIONS TO BENEFIT APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
The family of a DeForest Marine who died while serving in Iraq has established a memorial fund in his name with the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Foundation. The Shane O’Donnell Memorial Fund, named for the 24-year-old lance corporal who graduated from MATC earlier this year, has been created to promote the college’s apprenticeship program among high school students. see press release

MATC OFFERS TRAINING SEMINARS TO HELP BUSINESSES WIN GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS; FOUR DEC. 8 SESSIONS WILL FOCUS ON FINDING AND COMPETING FOR FEDERAL DOLLARS
Madison Area Technical College will help local businesses learn how to effectively compete for contracts to sell their products and services to the federal government at four training seminars to be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004. The training sessions will be conducted at MATC’s Business Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) in the TEC Business Center, 3591 Anderson Street in Madison. A $20 fee for each seminar will cover the cost of materials. see press release

MATC BOARD APPROVES TRUAX BOOKSTORE PROJECT;
REVIEWS CUSTOMIZED TRAINING AND COLLEGE MONITORING INFORMATION

The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board approved a construction project for the Truax Bookstore at its November 10 meeting. In addition, the board received a proposal and report about the college’s customized training services and reviewed a timeline to receive monitoring information to assess the college’s effectiveness. see press release

Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will host two workshops in November to help local businesses learn about and adopt innovative practices that can significantly improve their operations and profitability. The college is offering both workshops in partnership with local non-profit organizations dedicated to assisting Wisconsin business in becoming more competitive in the global economy. MATC CAREER SNAPSHOTS PROFILES
BUSINESS, COMPUTER AND ART CAREERS

Two million new jobs are expected to be added nationwide in professional, service, management, business and financial occupations between 2000 and 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will focus on educational programs leading to careers in the business, computer and art fields at an upcoming Career Snapshots on Tuesday, November 16. The free career exploration event will be held at the MATC Truax Campus, Room 142AB, 3550 Anderson Street in Madison from 6-8 pm.
