MATC PINS
NEW NURSES AT SPECIAL CEREMONY
THIS FRIDAY EVENING AS PART OF GRADUATION TRADITION
WHAT:
A pining ceremony for MATCs graduating associate degree
(RN) nursing students held traditionally to complement commencement activities.
WHO:
48 new associate degree (RN) nurses; 26 from the colleges Madison
campus and 22 from its Reedsburg campus. MATC staff and nursing faculty
also will participate.
The nurses
are among the 2,013 students who will graduate at MATCs commencement
ceremony (being held this Saturday, May15 at 10 am in the Veterans
Memorial Coliseum, Alliant Energy Center).
Many
of the graduates have interesting life stories, including Lobsang Phintso,
a Tibetan refuge male graduate who is working at Meriter Hospital.
The number
of men pursuing nursing as a career has been growing. This semester, 7
of the 48 graduates are male. Other male graduates include a single parent;
a graduate retraining for a second career; and another graduate who is
finishing his nursing degree after working as a nursing assistant in a
long-term health care facility.
