RECEIVES TOP NATIONAL AWARD
FROM THE MICROSCOPY SOCIETY OF AMERICA
Stephanie
Kostrna, a 2004 graduate of Madison Area Technical Colleges (MATC)
Electron Microscopy Program, received the Presidential Student Award from
the Microscopy Society of America. The national award is given to only
four individuals (usually graduate level research and beyond) annually
based on innovative research involving light, electron and scanning probe
microscopies.see

COMPETE AND WIN AT STATEWIDE CAREER SKILLS EXPO
Five students from the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) chapter of
SkillsUSA won top awards while four other MATC students placed at the
Career Skills Expo held in Madison earlier this month. The statewide event
allows secondary and post-secondary students from across the state to
compete in more than 50 technical and occupational skill areas.

BOARD APPROVES 2004-2005 BUDGET
The
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board voted at its May
12 meeting to adopt the 2004-05 fiscal year budget. The approval follows
a public hearing held April 14. The budget of $160,060,000 includes an
estimated mill rate of 1.38545. For every $100,000 in assessed property
value, district property owners will pay $134.99 in taxes to support MATC,
$1.32 less than last year when property owners paid $136.31 for every
$100,000 in assessed value. The estimated mill rate will be adjusted in
October based on actual equalized property valuation assessments.

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ONLINE OFFICE
AND BUSINESS SOFTWARE PROGRAMS
In todays
business community, there is an increasing need for trained, computer-savvy
office professionals -- from administrative assistants to clerks and receptionists.
They comprise the largest segment of the office workforce and it is expected
to grow. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, more than 4 million
administrative assistants and secretaries work in the United States. This
number is expected to increase with the addition of 184,000 more administrative
assistants needed in the U.S. by 2012. see

MATC TO GRADUATE
2013 STUDENTS AT SPRING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY; Including First
Meeting & Event Management and Online Associate Degree Grads
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will recognize 2013 graduates at
its spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15, 2004. The ceremony
begins at 10 am at the Dane County Memorial Coliseum in the Alliant Energy
Center located off John Nolen Drive in Madison. The graduating class includes
students from MATCs Madison campus, as well as its Fort Atkinson,
Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown campuses.see
