MATC Students Win “Best of Show” and Five Additional
Awards at Associated Collegiate Press Conference

Madison Area Technical College (MATC) students won the 1st Place “Best of Show Award” among two-year colleges and four 2nd place awards and an honorable mention among 2- and 4-year colleges in the Associated Collegiate Press Best of the Midwest Collegiate Newspaper Conference.

The staff of The Clarion, the college’s student newspaper, won the “Best of Show” award, as well as 2nd place awards for the newspaper’s Arts and Entertainment section and for Special Sections. Individual awards for MATC students were presented to Bryan Morris, now a Madison resident and originally from Rockford, IL, for 2nd place in editorial writing; and Todd Wilson who lives in Marshall, for 2nd place in feature writing. Jessi Espie, who is from Monona and currently lives in Lodi, was recognized with an honorable mention in photography.

MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges and serves about 50,000 individuals each year. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100 career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college offers instruction through five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
