MATC STUDENTS WIN "BEST OF SHOW" AND FIVE ADDITIONAL AWARDS
AT ASSOCIATED COLLEGIATE PRESS CONFERENCE
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) students won the 1st Place Best
of Show Award among two-year colleges and four 2nd place awards
and an honorable mention among 2- and 4-year colleges in the Associated
Collegiate Press Best of the Midwest Collegiate Newspaper Conference.see

MATC RECEIVES HIGH TECH DONATION FROM ALLIANT ENERGY
Microturbine on the Cutting Edge of Alternative Energy Production
The Alliant Energy Corporation recently donated a $43,000 Capstone MicroTurbine
to Madison Area Technical College. Microturbines are very low emission
heat and power systems capable of producing both electrical power and
heat on low-pressure gas lines. MATC plans to install the microturbine
for use in a noncritical heat and power location such as the colleges
swimming pool to supplement energy needs. In addition, the equipment will
be used to train students in unit operation and repair.see

MATC 13TH
ANNUAL POW WOW CELEBRATES NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE
The annual Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Powwow will
be held this year on Saturday, April 3. Celebrating its 13th anniversary,
the MATC Powwow draws approximately 2,500 people to the colleges
Truax location each year and features nationally known drum groups, dancers
and other featured participants. Sponsored by the MATC Native American
Student Association (NASA), the public is invited to the event.see

FINANCIAL AID ACTIVITIES AIMED TO SIMPLIFY PROCESS AND INCREASE OPTIONS
FOR AFFORDING COLLEGE
The question of How Can I Afford College? will
be answered through several Financial Aid Awareness Week Activities at
Madison Area Technical College. The topics of student loans, federal and
state grants, employment opportunities, veteran benefits and scholarships
will be discussed. One-on-one assistance in filling out financial aid
forms will be offered each day.see

TO K-12 AND COLLEGE EDUCATORS;
FOCUS ON NEXT BIG THING IS REALLY SMALL
HEIGHTENED BY $3.7 BILLION FEDERAL R&D FUNDING
Nanotechnology, which encompasses many branches of science
all reduced to a minute scale, has been compared to the replicator
on Star Trek -- it allows scientists to manipulate objects at the molecular
level...MATCs Bio-Link Nanotechnology Biotechnology Meeting introduces
K-12 and college educators to the hot new field of nanotechnology and
its future applications to biotechnology and industry through presentations,
