MATC PRINTING
AND PUBLISHING PROGRAM
RECEIVES TWO STATE AWARDS
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Printing and Publishing Program
has won two honors for outstanding achievement in the fourth annual Graphic
Excellence Awards, a statewide printing competition hosted by the Printing
Industries of Wisconsin, the states trade association for printing
and graphic arts.
Competing
against 670 entries from printing firms across the state, MATCs
program garnered two awards in the student categories. Program students
received an Award for Excellence for a self-promotion packet designed
to promote the printing occupations as a career path and a Certificate
of Merit for a newsletter, The First Impression, produced by the 2003
graduating class.
I
am very proud of the students who participated in the production of the
pieces cited at the competition, said Scott Baxter, program director.
It is reassuring to be recognized as a program that produces the
type of printing that wins industry awards. It tells us, as a program,
that we are teaching marketable skills.
The Graphic
Excellence Awards recognize those responsible for the creation and production
of print communications in Wisconsin. The competition promotes excellence
in print communications and rewards companies and individuals who produced
the best in print media.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems
16 colleges and serves about 50,000 students each year. It provides a
comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult

customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100
career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and
certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college serves all or
parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction
