MATC
CELEBRATES NATIONAL
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION WEEK
Students and faculty
in the technical education programs at Madison Area Technical College
will celebrate Career and Technical Education Week, February 8-14, 2004.
The weeklong celebration emphasizes the role technical education and its
business/industry partners play in helping youth and adults enter and
progress in the workforce.
“MATC is
dedicated to providing high quality and relevant education to prepare
students for rewarding careers,” states Richard Schneider, an MATC
civil engineering instructor and president of the colleges’ WACTE
(Wisconsin Association for Career and Technical Education) chapter. “Employers
frequently seek skilled workers for jobs that need more than a high school
education, but may not require a four-year degree. Our faculty works closely
with advisory committees made up of employers and professionals in the
field, to ensure the education we provide fits their needs.”
Research shows
that 80% of new jobs require some postsecondary education. Madison Area
Technical College is a nationally ranked two-year college with 92% graduate
employment, 97% graduate satisfaction and 99% employer satisfaction. MATC
offers free assessment services and career resources. For more information,
contact MATC’s Counseling Center at (608) 246-6076.
MATC is the second
largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems’ 16 colleges.
It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and
science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities,
as well as customized employee training. MATC awards associate degrees,
vocational diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The
college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin
and offers instruction through five campuses and various other locations
throughout the district.
