BAYRD, MOSLEY
JOIN MATC DISTRICT BOARD;
ASHLEY RE-ELECTED AS CHAIR, MCGOWAN ELECTED VICE-CHAIR
At its annual
organizational meeting held in July, the MATC District Board gained two
new members, Carousel Andrea Bayrd and Darnella Mosley.
In addition, John Ashley began serving his second three-year term
on the board and was re-elected board chair.
Carousel Andrea
Bayrd resides in Madison and is a civil rights attorney. Bayrd previously
served as a course lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law
School and as a prisoner civil litigation staff attorney for the Dane
County Circuit Court. She currently serves on the board of the Equal Opportunity
Commission and was named 2003 Volunteer of the Year for her work with
the Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison.
John Ashley from
Sauk City is the administrator of the education services division of the
Wisconsin Educational Communications Board in Madison. He serves on the
advisory board of the Children's Health Education Center in Milwaukee
and is a board member on the Ferry Bluff Eagle Council in Sauk Prairie.
Darnella Mosley
of McFarland is the human resources director at Fleetguard Inc. in Stoughton.
Mosley is responsible for human resources leadership at 11 plant locations
and for approximately 1,800 employees. She is a member of the Greater
Madison Society of Human Resource Management and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Continuing members
serving on the board include: Gerald McGowan (Fort Atkinson), vice
chair; Judith Ecker (DeForest), secretary: Donald Heileger
(Stoughton), treasurer; Kenneth Brittingham (McFarland); James
Cavanaugh (Madison); and Rose Williams (Sun Prairie).
These individuals volunteer as part of the nine-member governance board
responsible for MATC operations funded by a current year budget of $160
million. MATC serves approximately 50,000 people a year and employs approximately
1,800 individuals on a full or part-time basis annually. The duties of
the board members include attending evening action meetings, which generally
are held the second Wednesday of each month, and informational meetings
held the fourth Wednesday of each month.
MATC is one of
the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System's 16 colleges. It
provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science,
adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well
as customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100
career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and
certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college offers instruction
through five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
