MATC
Honors 100 At High School Equivalency
Completion Ceremony
Madison
Area Technical College will hold its 11th Annual High School Completion
Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, June 5, at 7 pm. in the Mitby Theater
at the MATC@Truax location, 3550 Anderson Street. The cap and gown ceremony
honors students who have completed requirements for a high school option,
including the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), the General Educational
Development (GED) certificate and the External Diploma Program (EDP).
A reception in the cafeteria will follow the ceremony.
This ceremony marks a great accomplishment for the many people who, for
a variety of reasons, havent followed the traditional educational
process. A career change was the reason Joy Brasher returned to school
to receive her high school diploma. A beautician for more than 10 years,
she decided she wanted to pursue her other interests in nutritional counseling
or personal training. At the time she went to beauty school a high school
diploma wasnt necessary, but for additional training she found it
was vital. Now on the road to a new career, she says,There were
times when I almost gave up, but my teachers encouraged me and Im
glad I did. Im starting to look into classes and more training at
MATC.
Keynote
speaker, MATC Board Member John Ashley, Jr., will congratulate the students
on their achievement. Ashley is director of the education division of
Wisconsins Educational Communications Board. He has produced award-wining
television series on history and education in Wisconsin and is responsible
for all instructional activities of the ECB including production and acquisition
of television, multimedia and web-based resource programming, research
and evaluation, online services, scheduling and promotion.
Dr. Rose Ann Findlen, MATC provost for learning, will give a tribute to
the participants and their guests. About 700 people are expected to attend
the ceremony.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems
16 colleges and serves approximately 50,000 individuals annually. It provides
