Honors 100 At High School Equivalency Completion Ceremony
Madison
Area Technical College will hold its 11th Annual High School Completion
Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, June 5, at 7 pm. in the Mitby Theater
at the MATC@Truax location, 3550 Anderson Street. The cap and gown ceremony
honors students who have completed requirements for a high school option,
including the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), the General Educational
Development (GED) certificate and the External Diploma Program (EDP).
A reception in the cafeteria will follow the ceremony.see

Faculty Members Receive Distinguished Teacher Awards
The
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Foundation will honor three faculty
members during the colleges spring commencement ceremony on May
17. English instructor Sonja Hansard-Weiner, Spanish instructor Jo Ann
(Jody) Thrush and accounting/business instructor Mark Finger will each
receive the Distinguished Teacher Award for 2003.see

To Graduate 2,009 Students at Spring Commencement Ceremony
Madison Area
Technical College (MATC) will recognize 2,009 graduates, an increase of
nearly 14 percent from last years 1,766 graduates, at its spring
commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17, 2003. The ceremony begins at
10 am at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center
located just off John Nolen Drive in Madison. The graduating class includes
students from MATCs Madison campus, as well as its Fort Atkinson,
Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown campuses.see

Industrial Controls Final Exam: "A Battlebot Fight to the Death"
For one class
at MATC the final exam will be a fight to the death . . . literally
until one BattleBot dies or both robot batteries go dead. The winning
team will receive an A for the final project. The loser
well it will be up to the spectators to give them a thumbs up
or thumbs down.see

Grandfather
Rebounds from Surgery To Train for Mad City Marathon; Fueled by Determination
to Raise Scholarship Funds and Motivate Youth to Overcome Obstacles
Juan Morales
is a 57-year old grandfather of six recovering from major back surgery.
He also has had arthroscopic surgery performed on both knees. This year
he is challenging himself to run all 26.2 miles of the Mad City Marathon
on May 25 as part of Juan Watch: Race for Education, a scholarship
fund-raising initiative. His goals are to raise $10,000 to build MATCs
Family Based Scholarship Fund, developed to support minority students,
and to demonstrate to students that obstacles in life are surmountable
through proper training, perseverance, and commitment.see
