MATC Career Snapshots
Profiles Health Care Careers
Most people
recognize that doctors and nurses are important members of the health
care team, however many other health care professionals play a critical
role in caring for patients. MATC will focus on these less well-known
health care careers in an upcoming Career Snapshots on Tuesday, April
8. The free career exploration event will be held at the MATC Truax Campus,
Mitby Theater, 3550 Anderson Street in Madison from 6-8 pm. Registration

MATC Global Horizons
Series Series to Present Japanese Cultural Festival
Madison Area
Technical Colleges Global Horizons Series will host a Japanese Cultural
Festival, Saturday, April 12, from noon until 5 p.m. at MATC Truax (3550
Anderson St., Madison). Designed to highlight aspects of contemporary
Japanese culture and society, the event will include workshops, performances
and film showings throughout the day. All activities are free and open
to the public. see

Japanese Film Festival
Hosted by MATC Global Horizons
Madison Area
Technical Colleges Global Horizons Series will host a Japanese Film
Festival, Monday, April 7, through Saturday, April 12, at MATC Truax (3550
Anderson St., Madison) and MATC Downtown (211 N. Carroll St., Madison).
The festival will feature a keynote lecture by world renown Japanese arts
critic Dr. Donald Richie, feature films by popular director Akira Kurosawa
and others, and Japanese animation (anime) films. Admission
is free and open to the public. see

Series Presents "Doing Business with Japan Symposium"
To be competitive
in todays global economy, businesses and business students must
have a rich understanding of international trade and business relationships.
Doing Business with Japan is a symposium for business professionals
and students interested in learning about Japanese trade relations and
the global economy. The symposium will be held Thursday, April 10 from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Madison Area Technical College (MATC), Truax location,

MATC Counselor Rosanne
Glick Receives Professional Excellence Award
Rosanne Glick,
of Whitewater, a counselor at Madison Area Technical College (MATC), received
the 2003 Professional Excellence Award for Specialty Services from the
Wisconsin Association for Career and Technical Excellence (WACTE) at the
associations annual conference in Green Bay in February. At the
conference, Glick also was elected to the WACTE Board of Directors for
a two-year term. see

Business Professionals of America Wins State Awards
The Madison
Area Technical College (MATC) Chapter of Business Professionals of America
(BPA) took home awards from the organizations state leadership conference
last month in Eau Claire. Fourteen MATC students competed with others
in BPA chapters throughout Wisconsin in both individual skill and team

is Available During MATC Financial Aid Awareness Week
Help with
applying for financial aid for college is available at Madison Area Technical
Colleges Financial Aid Week, March 24 through 27. Events and special
presentations are planned for all five MATC campuses including Ft. Atkinson,
Reedsburg, Portage, Watertown and Madisons Truax and Downtown locations.

Win Awards at the State Career Leadership Development Conference
Students
in MATCs Delta Epsilon Chi Marketing Club recieved several top honors
at this years State Career Leadership Development Conference held
in March in Madison. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Marketing and Management
Association and Delta Epsilon Chi, the competition includes students from
two- and four-year colleges across the state. see

Wins State Awards
Beta Beta
Psi, the MATC chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa,
has received regional awards for the 2002-2003 school year. The chapter
received the Five Star Status Award (the highest ranking) for implementing
programs that exemplify the honor societys four hallmarksservice,
scholarship, fellowship and learningin the community. The Madison
chapter competed with other chapters in its region that included Wisconsin,
Minnesota, North and South Dakota as well as Japan.

The Clarion Student Newspaper Wins National and State Awards
The Clarion,
Madison Area Technical Colleges student newspaper, and its staff
recieved national, regional and state awards this year. In early March,
the newspaper took top awards in the regional Associated Collegiate Press
competition in Minneapolis. see

MATC 12th Annual
Powwow Celebrates Native American Culture
The annual
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Powwow will be held this year on
Saturday, March 29. Celebrating its 12th anniversary, the MATC Powwow
draws approximately 2,500 people to the colleges Truax location
each year and features nationally known drum groups, dancers and other
featured participants. Sponsored by the MATC Native American Student Association
(NASA), the public is invited to the event. see

St. Marys Funds
New MATC Nursing Class
to Help Solve Wisconsin's Health Care Worker Shortage
Wisconsin
will gain eight additional registered nurses (RNs) this year thanks to
the generosity of St. Marys Hospital Medical Center. A gift of $80,000
from St. Marys to the MATC Foundation demonstrates the hospitals
commitment to working with Madison Area Technical College to directly
address the nursing and health care worker shortage. As a result of this
gift, MATC has been able to enroll students in an additional nursing class
section this year. see
