effective on August 15, 2003. Jim Cavanaugh, Chair of the Board for 2002-03,
stated that Dr. Simone will continue to work with the College in an Emeritus
capacity on a variety of special projects and transitional matters through
September 2004.
Simone has been
President of MATC since 1989. During her tenure at the College, she has
received numerous professional awards and honors and the College has received
local, state and national recognition as a premiere institution of learning.
Dr. Simone, under
an employment contract through June 2005, stated that this was a good
time to resign from the presidency and to pursue other opportunities and
challenges. She stated that she is looking forward to the change in pace
and different focus. Simone offered, The time is right for me to
do this. I have accomplished what I set out to do 14 years ago. MATC is
in excellent shape. Whether it is judged by the quality of our graduates,
the accolades by employers, the significant increase in gifts to the MATC
Foundation, the development of sound fiscal practices and budgets, or
the creation of excellent learning programs, MATC excels.
Dr. Simone
has served us well and contributed greatly to the success of the College
over these past 14 years. She will be missed. Her willingness to continue
to serve during this period of transition is most appreciated according
to Mr. Cavanaugh.
