Veto
of Tech College Tax Freeze Will Help Wisconsin Economy
Governor Doyle's
veto of the property tax freeze on technical college districts will help
the economic recovery of Wisconsin, according to Madison Area Technical
College (MATC). In signing the budget bill and vetoing the property tax
freeze, the Governor signaled the importance of MATC and the states other
15 technical colleges in rebuilding the state's economy. Leaders of the
state technical college system say the freeze would have been short-sighted.see

Area Students Receive MATC Bassett Foundation Scholarships
Four area students
have received Bassett Foundation Scholarships from Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) for this fall. The MATC scholarships are made possible

Tax Levy Freeze Would Chill Economy,
Leave Students and Employers Out in the Cold
For months,
a team of administrative and union employees at Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) have been monitoring the various legislative proposals
that threaten drastic cuts to the colleges state funding.We
have taken a hard look at what the potential of millions of dollars of
cuts over the next several years would do to MATC, explains MATC
Chief Finance Officer Kevin Myren. We continue to hope for the best,
but in preparing for the worst weve got some idea of what it would
mean for our students and community.

Dr.
Beverly Simone, President of MATC, announced today that she is resigning
as President effective on August 15, 2003. Jim Cavanaugh, Chair of the
Board for 2002-03, stated that Dr. Simone will continue to work with the
College in an Emeritus capacity on a variety of special projects and transitional
matters through September 2004.

Four Area Students
Receive MATC Technical Excellence Scholarships
Four area students have received Technical Excellence Scholarships from
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) for this fall. The MATC scholarships
are made possible by donations from several local and national businesses
and individuals to the MATC Foundation.
