National
League for Nursing Accreditation Commission Visits MATC
The National League
for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) will be conducting a site
visit and review of Madison Area Technical Colleges (MATC) Associate
Degree Nursing Program on February 11, 12 and 13. The accreditation review
process is held every eight years. It provides an official opportunity
for comments and feedback from interested individuals within the nursing
community and the public at large.
Accreditation serves many purposes. It provides a positive opportunity
for our faculty to examine and reflect on the quality of the programs
we offer, says Marilyn Rinehart, MATC associate dean of nursing.
It also formalizes our ongoing commitment to the philosophy and
practices of quality improvement.
NLNACs mission is to support the interest of nursing education,
nursing practices, and the public through accreditation functions. It
is responsible for the specialized accreditation of nursing education
programs from certificates and diplomas to associate, baccalaureate
and masters degrees.
The NLNAC accreditation reviewers will be participating in lab and class
visits, touring clinical sites and meeting with students, graduates, faculty
and administrators. Curriculum and instruction, faculty credentials, student
ratios, learning environment, resources, integrity, and educational effectiveness
are among the standards and criteria examined.
You may submit comments in writing to be shared with the program evaluators
or attend a public comment session. Written comments may be sent to Marilyn
Rinehart, Associate Dean, MATC Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson Street, Madison,
WI 53704.
The public comment sessions are Wednesday, February 12 from 4-5 pm at
the MATC Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson Street, Madison and 2:30-3:00 pm
at the MATC Reedsburg Campus, 300 Alexander Avenue, Reedsburg. If you
would like to attend a public comment session, please call for details
