MATC
Performing Arts holds children's auditions for Children of Eden
Madison Area Technical
College Performing Arts is holding auditions for a childrens ensemble
for its spring musical, Children of Eden. Open auditions will be
held for children age six to 12 on Saturday, January 25, at 1 p.m. in
the Mitby Theater on the MATC Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson Street. Roles
are available for 12 to 14 children to play younger generation and animal
characters.
Children of Eden was written by Stephen Schwartz, the Academy Award-winning
composer/lyricist of the animated features "Pocahontas," "The
Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "The Prince of Egypt," as
well as musicals "Godspell" and "Pippin." The musical
tells the familiar story of Adam and Eve and of Noah and the great flood.
To prepare for the audition: Childrens ensemble members will be
required to act, sing and dance. Auditioners should prepare a brief (one
minute) song from any Broadway show. They should wear comfortable clothing
and shoes in which they can dance. Check the childs personal schedule
against the proposed rehearsal and performance times. There will be a
more specific schedule at auditions. Bring personal schedule to the auditionsavailability
will play a role in casting. Auditions are open to all MATC students,
staff and community members.
Dates and times for childrens rehearsals have not been determined,
but the director would like to schedule them for four Saturday mornings
in February. It also may be necessary to bring children in to rehearse
one or two Friday evenings in February.
During the rehearsal week of February 24 through March 1, children would
begin to rehearse with the entire cast in the regular evening rehearsal
schedule. These rehearsals begin at 7 pm and run until 10 p.m. While children
will rehearse in the first hour, it may be necessary as the show progresses
to keep them until 10 p.m.
The final week
of rehearsals are set for March 3 through 6 from 6 to 10p.m. and all cast
members will be required to attend.
Performances of the play will be held March 7, 8, 14, 15, 2003 at 8p.m.
and on March 9 at 2p.m. in the Studio Theater at MATC Truax Campus. More
detailed information on the production or the audition process is available
by contacting Wm. Patrick Barlow at (608) 246-6572.
