Math Club Presents Pi Day Celebration!
The Mathematics
Club of Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will host a Pi Day Celebration
on Friday, March 14, from 9:30 am to 2:30 p.m. at the MATC Truax location,
3550 Anderson St., Madison.
WHAT: Pi
Day Celebration
Includes a math competition, featuring teams from two-year colleges; presentation
on
The Calculation of Pi, by Beloit College Professor Ranjan
Roy and a Pie-athelon,
pie-eating contest in which winners consume the most pies in 3 minutes,
14 seconds; a Pi Day Poster competition.

WHO: Hosted
by MATC Math Club. Club advisor is mathematics instructor J. Sri
Sriskandarajah. Competition teams from MATC, UWFond du Lac, UWMarshfield/Wood
County, UWMarathon and UWWashington County.
MORE: Pi
is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circles circumference
to its diameter, and numerically equal to approximately 3.14. Pi has inspired
poems, limericks, jokes and even a popular film, and was recently calculated
to eight billion digits using super computers.
