MATC Performing Arts Presents Children of Eden

The old testament is the inspiration for Madison Area Technical College Performing Arts’ spring musical, “Children of Eden.” Performances will be at 8 p.m. on March 7, 8, 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. on March 9 and 16 in the Mitby Theater on the MATC Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson Street.

With music and lyrics by Academy Awarding-composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz and book by John Caird, “Children of Eden,” is an inspirational tale of parents, children and faith—not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! The musical offers a heartfelt and often humorous take on the age-old conflicts between parents and children. Adam, Eve, Noah and the Father who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The melodic, energetic score is a mix of pop, folk, rock, reggae, gospel, Broadway and powerful choral moments.

“Children of Eden” was written by Schwartz, best known for his work on the animated features "Pocahontas," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "The Prince of Egypt," as well as musicals "Godspell" and "Pippin." Caird is perhaps best known for his direction and adaptation for stage of “Les Miserables.”

Tickets for “Children of Eden,” may be purchased by calling the Mitby Theater Box Office at (608) 243-4000. The hours are Monday through Friday, 10:30am to 4:30pm.
