Second Annual MATC
Faculty Art Show and Reception
An
open reception is planned to mark the start of the second annual Madison
Area Technical College (MATC) Art Faculty Exhibit. The reception will
be Tuesday, March 4, from 11:30 am to 1:30 at the MATC Truax location,
Administration Building, 3550 Anderson St., Madison. The exhibit will
run on select dates between March 3 and April 3. Some artwork is available
for sale. see

MATC Math Club Presents
Pi Day Celebration
A math competition,
presentation and a pie-eating contest will highlight the Pi Day Celebration
at Madison Area Technical College on Friday, March 14, from 9:30 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m. The event takes place at the colleges Truax location,
3550 Anderson St., Madison. Hosted by the MATC Mathematics Club, the event
celebrates the mathematical concept of Pi and supports the clubs
assertion that mathematics is more than textbooks. see

MATC Career Snapshots
Event Profiles Marketing Careers
MATC will
focus on marketing and fashion marketing careers and options
that lead to a bachelors degree in an upcoming Career Snapshots
on Tuesday, March 11. The free career exploration event will be held at
the MATC Truax Campus, Room 142 AB, 3550 Anderson Street in Madison from
6-8 pm. Registration for Career Snapshots is available online or by calling

Arts Presents Children of Eden
The old testament
is the inspiration for Madison Area Technical College Performing Arts
spring musical, Children of Eden. Performances will be at
8 p.m. on March 7, 8, 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. on March 9 and 16 in the
Mitby Theater on the MATC Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson Street. see

Edgewood College Receives Federal Grant, Leads ESL Teacher-Training
Consortium
(MATC Joins Partnership with Edgewood College, others)
A consortium
of partners led by Edgewood College recently was awarded a $2 million
federal grant to increase the number and improve the quality of teachers
needed for a steadily growing population of students with limited English
language skills in Madison and throughout south-central Wisconsin. The
first languages of these English language learners are primarily Spanish
(60%) and a variety of Southeast Asian languages (35%) including Hmong,
Lao, Cambodian, and Vietnamese. As a group, these students fare alarmingly
below academic performance standards in statewide standardized tests.see
