MATC Associate
Dean Selected to Represent
USA on International Business Education Board
Judy Olson Sutton,
associate dean at Madison Area Technical College [MATC], has been elected
by the United States Chapter of the International Society for Business
Education (ISBE) to serve as the U.S. vice president to the Société
Internationale pour l'Enseignement Commerical (SIEC-ISBE International].
In her position, Sutton will represent the United States on the board
and the executive committee, which also includes vice presidents from
three other countries.
The fundamental
mission of the SIEC-ISBE is to form an interactive educational exchange
network among educators and trainers in schools, businesses, and organizations,
both nationally and internationally. Founded in 1901 in Zurich, today
its headquarters are in Carson City, Nevada. Member countries include
Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Faeroe
Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway,
Poland, Scotland, Sierra Leone, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.S.
Groups from Eastern Europe, the Far East, Central and South America, and
Africa are expected to join in the near future.
The U.S. chapter,
one of 20 chapters in the international organization, has approximately
900 members and publishes the newsletter Network twice a year. The chapter
also publishes lesson plans for international business and other materials
for member educators.
MATC is one of
the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems 16 colleges
and serves about 50,000 students each year. It provides a comprehensive
curriculum of technical, business, liberal arts and science, adult basic
education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized
employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100 career programs.
It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and
offers non-degree courses. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties
located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction through five
campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
