The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Community Show Choir and combined college choirs from MATC and UW–Rock County (of Janesville) will perform selected Broadway show tunes as well as well-known songs by Irving Berlin at the Spring Super Show on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m.

The show is held in the Mitby Theater, MATC–Truax, 3550 Anderson St. Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults, $4 for children under 12, students and seniors, and are available at the Mitby Theater Box Office or by calling (608) 243-4000. For additional information, call James Langkamp at (608) 243-4325.

Founded in 1980, the MATC Community Show Choir presents concerts of popular music in the fall and spring of each year. A volunteer organization open to all who love to sing, the choir has performed at New York’s Lincoln Center as part of Irving Berlin’s 100th birthday concert and for Pope John Paul while on a tour of Italy and Poland. Regionally, the choir performed in the Wisconsin Capitol Building and for the opening of the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison and at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee.

Born in Russia on May 11, 1888, Berlin became known as one of the leading songwriters in Tin Pan Alley, an area of New York City known for its sheet music publishers. He penned numerous Broadway hits including “Blue Skies,” “Alexandar’s Ragtime Band,” “Easter Parade,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” and “God Bless America” and wrote music for both Broadway and film.

MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100 career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses.
