Community Show Choir Presents Spring Super Show,
Broadway Salutes Irving Berlin
The Madison
Area Technical College (MATC) Community Show Choir and combined college
choirs from MATC and UWRock County (of Janesville) will perform
selected Broadway show tunes as well as well-known songs by Irving Berlin
at the Spring Super Show on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m.
The show
is held in the Mitby Theater, MATCTruax, 3550 Anderson St. Tickets
for the concert are $5 for adults, $4 for children under 12, students
and seniors, and are available at the Mitby Theater Box Office or by calling

Founded
in 1980, the MATC Community Show Choir presents concerts of popular music
in the fall and spring of each year. A volunteer organization open to
all who love to sing, the choir has performed at New Yorks Lincoln
Center as part of Irving Berlins 100th birthday concert and for
Pope John Paul while on a tour of Italy and Poland. Regionally, the choir
performed in the Wisconsin Capitol Building and for the opening of the
Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison and at the Wisconsin State
Fair in Milwaukee.
Born
in Russia on May 11, 1888, Berlin became known as one of the leading songwriters
in Tin Pan Alley, an area of New York City known for its sheet music publishers.
He penned numerous Broadway hits including Blue Skies, Alexandars
Ragtime Band, Easter Parade, Theres No Business
Like Show Business, and God Bless America and wrote
music for both Broadway and film.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems
16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal
arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and
activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training
in more than 100 career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational
diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college
serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin
and offers instruction through five campuses and various locations throughout
the district.
