The Madison Area Technical College Scholarship Guide (PDF, 1.5 MB) contains information on hundreds of scholarships from private organizations and donors willing and eager to assist students achieve academic success.

Applications for all financial aid programs are available on the web and in paper format at the Enrollment Center on the Truax Campus, Downtown Education Center, and at all regional campuses. MATC Foundation Scholarships and Other Assistance

The MATC Foundation is part of the Strategic Advancement Department and includes the MATC Alumni Association. For more information, call (608) 246-6441. The MATC Foundation’s vision is to enrich our community’s quality of life by helping students achieve their career dreams. The Foundation accomplishes its vision by soliciting, investing and disbursing gifts that support student access to high quality programs. Examples of contributions include those that fund scholarships and emergency financial assistance to help students afford MATC, Innovation Grants that fund new ideas and equipment gifts that provide hands-on learning experiences. Overall, the Foundation has disbursed more than $8 million in financial assistance to more than 27,000 MATC students. For more information, call (608) 246-6441.

Scholarship Application for Fall 2008

Scholarships are made possible through charitable gifts to the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Foundation by a variety of individuals and organizations. Eligibility for Continuing Student Scholarships includes:

  • Currently enrolled in at least six credits this semester or who completed six credits in previous semester.
  • Be enrolled for at least six credits at MATC during the semester in which you receive the scholarship.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Selection is based upon grade point average, financial need, and community activities.

The application form requires biographical information, a short essay, and financial information from your current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Grades, financial need, and program enrollment are the primary factors in making scholarship decisions. Recipients are eligible to receive one MATC Foundation scholarship per academic year.

New Student Scholarships

An education can open many doors. If you are ready to open those doors but aren't sure how you can afford college, apply for new student scholarships (PDF, 147 KB) and financial aid. There are two scholarships available, the Technical Excellence and Community Scholars.

Emergency Assistance - General Information

Emergency and short-term book loans provide a temporary financial bridge for students who have exhausted other financial means and whose ability to be successful at MATC is in jeopardy.

Short-term loans and emergency grants are available to assist continuing MATC students meet small emergencies, to a maximum of $500. Loans are interest free and payable within 45 days of receipt of funds. Failure to repay may result in debt collection. Eligibility includes

  • Having earned a minimum of 12 credits at MATC
  • Enrollment in a program for six or more credits during the semester of application
  • Having an employed, non-student co-signer willing and able to repay the loan if the applicant defaults.
  • Having filed for program admission and financial aid by the appropriate dates (August 1 for fall semester and December 1 for spring semester)
  • Financial aid will not be received during the first 15 days of the semester

Having written documentation of the emergency expenses.

Students begin the application process by meeting with a counselor or regional advisor to discuss their specific situations and possible referrals to alternative resources. For more information contact the Student Development Center at (608) 246-6076 or the Financial Aid Office at (608) 246-6625.

  • Regional campuses: meet with a Student Development Advisor
