Experiential Learning
MATC will grant advanced standing credit for college-level learning which occurs outside the classroom if:
- College-level learning is documented through the Experiential Learning Portfolio process;
- The Experiential Learning Portfolio is approved at the divisional level for credit appropriate to the student's program. Assistance in preparing the Experiential Learning Portfolio may be obtained from the experiential learning advocate.
The Experiential Learning Portfolio will contain materials which the student submits for evaluation and will be returned to the student.
The college will use the experiential credit standards found in the State Board Credit Standards and in the policies and recommendations from the Council on Adult Experiential Learning.
The division will create a record of the action taken on the portfolio. This may be an electronic record. The division will also notify the student in writing of the action taken and a copy of that notification shall be retained by the division. Portfolios will not be retained by the division, except if the division wishes to do an audit or an evaluation of the experiential credit process. At such times, a random sample of portfolios may be copied for the time necessary to do the evaluation.
MATC may charge additional fees to cover expenses incurred in providing portfolio evaluations which require skill evaluation.
