Documentable College-Level Learning
MATC will grant advanced standing credit for college-level learning documented by a record of successful completion of:
- Appropriate training such as that received in the military or the workplace. The standard for credit equivalencies for such training will be recommendations from the American Council of Education Guide.
- Tests such as CLEP, Advance
Placement (CEEB), DANTES, or Divisional
Challenge Exams.
The recommendations above permit advanced standing for both elective and 15 credits of general education courses. Advance standing for all other program requirements is determined at the divisional level.
Procedures
For the 15 credits of general education and for the six credits of electives,
the college will accept, uniformly, the American Council on Education (ACE)
recommendations. For program-related courses, however, the divisions must
make their own decisions about implementing the ACE recommendations.
MATC may be unable to verify all college-level learning because verification processes may not be readily available. CLEP and/or Advanced
Placement Scores in occupational program areas will be reviewed by the appropriate division. In no case will credit be awarded for Advanced Placement Scores below 3.
In the Case of In-house Testing
- Courses available for test-out, and the corresponding performance standards, shall be determined by the division.
- During the semester in which a student has registered for a course, he or she may not request advanced standing by test-out without permission of the division.
- MATC may charge students additional expenses for the divisional test-out procedure.
- Divisions should regularly inform students of courses available for test-out.
