Admission Procedures

Are you applying for a program, or just a few classes?

If you are applying for a specific MATC program -- such as Biotech, IT, Auto Collision, or Liberal Arts, for example -- it may have additional admission requirements, so please review the program information in addition to the admission steps below.

If you want to take just a few credit classes and not enroll in a full-fledged academic program, review the procedure for signing up for a class or two.

STEP 1: Application Form and Fee

Fill out the Online Application Form and submit the $35 fee ($30 application fee and $5 processing fee) payable by credit card, debit card or electronic check by the application deadline. If you need a paper copy of the application, contact the Enrollment Center at (608) 246-6210.

  • Fall applications will be available starting September 1 for next year's fall semester.
  • Spring applications will be available starting January 16 for next year's spring semester.

STEP 3: Specific Program Requirements

Be prepared to submit test/assessment scores (ACT, COMPASS, SAT, Asset) and/or other documentation required to fulfill the admission requirements for the specific program for which you are applying.

Once your application is submitted...

You will be contacted by the school and/or specific program about the next steps in the process, which include:

  • Acceptance to a program
  • Applying for financial aid
  • Orientation events
  • Registering for classes
  • And other first-time student events!

About MATC Admissions

MATC Truax Enrollment Center - Room 159

Madison Area Technical College is open to all students who are capable of benefiting from instruction. Post-secondary programs are open to applicants who have graduated high school, who have passed high school equivalency tests, or mature applicants who, through work experience, can prove that they are capable of mastering the subject matter.

Depending on the program you are interested in applying for, admission requirements may vary and include additional testing assessments. So, be sure to review the admission and application procedures outlined by each program.

A student’s application is evaluated on the basis of a combination of high school and other transcripts, work experience, entrance examination results and an interview, if it is deemed necessary.

It is possible for students to be concurrently enrolled in high school and in classes offered by MATC. In all cases, high school students must have parent or guardian permission. Costs for those attending in lieu of high school, under the provisions of Section 118.15 of the Wisconsin Statutes, are charged in accordance with the law.

If you have additional questions, search our knowledge base of frequently asked Admissions questions available through Ask MATC or phone the Enrollment Center at (608) 246-6210.
