There are many web sites dealing with medical and health topics. Here are a few which provide accurate, up-to-date information:

American Psychological Association homepage

Provides resources for professionals, healthcare consumers and students of psychology.

CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention : the nations' prevention agency http://www.cdc.gov/
Provides domestic and international public health information.

Drug InfoNet [computer file] : the Internet source for health care information http://www.druginfonet.com/
Provides information and links for healthcare professionals and consumers concerning health and pharmaceutical-related topics.

Health Related Hoaxes and Rumors

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides information to allay health-related fears associated with false threats and warnings.

Healthfinder
http://www.healthfinder.gov/
Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this site provides a gateway to reliable consumer health and human services information including links to news updates on health topics, selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public.

Images from the history of medicine

Provides access to the nearly 60,000 images in the prints and photograph collection of the History of Medicine Division (HMD) of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The collection includes a variety of media illustrating the social and historical aspects of medicine.

Provides searchable access to reliable, understandable information that is updated weekly by a team of Mayo experts.

Merck homepage

Provides online access to several Merck publications that are standard references in the health care field.

This major medical publisher offers some full-text articles from the American Journal of Nursing and other nursing journals, links to nursing web resources and organizations, career information, and history of nursing.

Nursing Spectrum

Provides the nursing community with career and continuing education information including access to a searchable database of full-text articles from the print publication, Nursing Spectrum.

Online journal of issues in nursing
http://nursingworld.org/ojin/
The Kent State University College of Nursing provides a peer-reviewed, electronic forum for discussion of issues in nursing. Recent issues are archived.

Electronic Databases

Available by clicking on the title of the database below. Access from home or work is available for these databases, please read the instructions for Off Campus Users.

CINAHL
Indexes a wide range of allied health articles, many of which are full-text.

Health Reference Center - Academic
A full-text database that covers professional and consumer health and medicine topics.

MEDLINEPlus
A service of the National Library of Medicine that provides links to information from professional and government health organizations about drugs, diseases and conditions, and to PubMed/MEDLINE index.

Nursing & Allied Health Collection
Indexes a wide range of allied health articles, many of which are full-text.

PubMed
A service of the National Library of Medicine that provides access to over 12 million MEDLINE
citations back to the mid-1960's and to additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

The library has a comprehensive collection of up-to-date nursing videos. They are an outstanding resource for demonstrating basic nursing skills and providing overview information about a variety of health and medical topics.
