French Odyssey in Provence & Paris

    Program Overview

    Join us as we explore the rich history, language and culture of France on this unique educational travel experience. We will journey across the beautiful countryside of Provence while enjoying art museums, Roman ruins, French markets and more. We will then travel to Paris to experience the magnificent City of Light.

    This educational travel experience is open to Madison College students, staff, alumni and community members. It is presented by the Madison College World Languages Department and the Center for International Education.

    Course Information

    This program is a non-credit bearing educational travel tour.

    Accommodations and Meals

    Participants will stay in double-occupancy hotel rooms; single occupancy is available at an additional cost. Breakfast is provided daily. Two group dinners, one in Nice and one in Paris, are also provided.

    Excursions

    As part of the program cost, participants will experience a number of excursions and cultural activities. These may include:

    • The Matisse and Chagall museums in Nice
    • Picnic with views of Mont Sainte-Victoire
    • Pont du Gard
    • Visits to Nîmes, Orange, Gordes and Châteauneuf-du-Pape
    • Tours of a chocolate factory and an olive oil producer
    • City tour of Paris

    Additional Information

    A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to France. If you need to apply for a passport, it is advised to allow at least 6 weeks for standard processing.

    This program is led by a Madison College French instructor and a retired Madison College history instructor. They will accompany participants to France, as well as conduct an informational meeting and mandatory pre-departure sessions.

    Cost

    The program fee for 2013 is approximately $2575 for students and $2725 for community members. (A student is someone enrolled at Madison College or another college for 6 or more credits in the fall 2012 semester.) This program fee includes:

    • Roundtrip airfare from Chicago to Nice and from Paris to Chicago
    • Airport transfers between Madison and Chicago and in France
    • Double-occupancy hotel accommodations
    • Breakfast daily and two dinners
    • Motor coach for five days in Provence
    • Entrance fees and guided tours in Provence
    • High-speed train from Orange to Paris
    • 4-hour panoramic city tour of Paris
    • Museum Pass in Paris
    • Mandatory international health insurance
    • International taxes and fuel surcharge
    • Two experienced and passionate tour leaders who speak French

    Additional costs include:

    • Gratuities for drivers and tour guides
    • Lunches and dinners (two group dinners are provided)
    • Personal expenses
    • Passport (if you do not yet have one)
    • Transportation in Paris
