    The Learning Academy is:MATC Learning Academy

    • A free (for Madison Area Technical College Employees) five-day intensive course in designing, delivering and assessing holistic learning experiences.
    • A chance to interact with fellow faculty members and experiment with new ways of teaching.
    • Time for self-exploration and reflection
    • Opportunities for networking with colleagues.
    • An opportunity to take a deeper dive into student-centered learning.
    • An examination of educational philosophy.
    • Experience focusing learning and experimentation in a classroom.

    Who should attend?

    • Any Madison Area Technical College faculty, staff member or administrator who wants to heighten their skills and abilities to foster student success.
    • Instructors or staff who need to fulfill WTCS provisional certification requirements.
    • Faculty who are interested in an active learning environment that promotes student success.

    Coffee/Networking 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
    Academy 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
    Lunch Provided* 12:15 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Academy 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

    *Wednesday - Lunch on your own.
    Enjoy an extended lunch time (11:30 - 1:00).

    What is my commitment to the Learning Academy?

    Two ways to gain credit for Learning Academy: (Certification Credits or College Credits)
     
    For 2 Certification Credits:
    • Complete some pre-work to prepare for the academy.
    • Complete required reading and/or written assignments each night.
    • Participate in all five days of the Academy.
    • Finish final paper/project
         OR
    • Serve as staff member at Learning to Learn Camp,
    • Date TBD. 

    For 2 College AND Certification Credits:

    • Complete some pre-work to prepare for the academy.
    • Complete required reading and/or written assignments each night.
    • Participate in all five days of the Academy.
    • Finish final paper/project
         AND
    • Serve as staff member at Learning to Learn Camp, Date TBD. -OR- Complete projects as assigned.

    How are the Learning Academy and the Learning to Learn Camp connected?

    The Learning to Learn (L2L) Camp is an intense five-day experience for incoming Madison Area Technical College students designed to help them set and achieve their academic and personal goals.

    Participants of the Learning Academy are trained to serve in instructional and support roles at the L2L Camp where they can experiment with new ways of teaching and facilitating learning.

    How can I register for the Learning Academy?

    Follow the directions to log onto our Registration Database:

    • Visit our Registration Site.
    • Log into our Database Site using your One Card Number as ID and first time Password.
    • Click on the Register link.
    • Select Provisional Certification on the Drop down list
    • Locate the correct Course Number, and check the box on the left column
    • Hit the Register button.
    • You will be sent an email confirmation of your registration.

    The Learning Academy consists of five interactive courses running concurrently.
    You choose one course of these seven to register for.
