Inclusive Excellence in Ethnic Diversity Award
The Award
The Intercultural Council is pleased to announce the Intercultural Council Award for Inclusive Excellence in Ethnic Diversity. These awards recognize the outstanding accomplishments of individuals who, alone or as part of a group, have contributed to inclusive excellence in ethnic diversity at Madison Area Technical College. These awards recognize employees and students at the college.
Employee Award recipients will be honored with a plaque in recognition of their “Equity Mindedness” and demonstrated commitment to advancing learning, teaching, student development, institutional functioning, or external social engagement that supports inclusive excellence in ethnic diversity at the college. (Association of American Colleges and Universities) Recipients will receive public recognition during CETL’s employee award presentation. Four employees will be selected for the award, one from each region (North, East), Truax, and the larger Madison area.
Student Award recipients will be honored during the Student Awards Banquet at the end of the spring semester with a plaque and a monetary award in the amount of $75. Students will be honored in recognition of their demonstrated leadership in leading, creating or participating in activities that support or advance a welcoming and supportive campus environment for ethnic minority students at the college. Student award recipients should also demonstrate a commitment to their own excellence in learning by holding at minimum GPA of 2.5.
Selection Criteria - Employees
Submit a letter of nomination that addresses how the nominee has demonstrated a significant commitment to inclusive excellence in ethnic minority diversity above and beyond his/her role and responsibilities through one or more of the following:
- Demonstrating a consistent pattern of commitment to the recruitment and retention of individuals, including students, faculty, and staff, of historically underrepresented populations
- Cultivating and promoting ethnic diversity initiatives through specific activities, programs, or projects on campus that establish and foster a more inclusive and equitable working and learning environment
- Employing best practices, such as the use of creative and innovative approaches to integrate excellence in inclusivity in faculty and staff development
- Using creative and innovative approaches to integrate inclusive excellence into the curriculum or student programs that have proven to be particularly successful in serving historically underrepresented students
- Contributing significantly to curriculum planning and implementation that is more responsive to and inclusive of diverse student needs and interests
- Exhibiting visionary and insightful leadership to confront and resolve inequities through strategic decision-making, allocation of resources, or establishment of priorities
Selection Criteria – Students
Submit a letter of nomination (not exceeding three pages) that addresses how the nominee has demonstrated a significant commitment to inclusive excellence in ethnic minority diversity above and beyond his/her role as a student by demonstrating through the following:
- Demonstrating a consistent pattern of commitment to the enhancement of the campus environment for historically underrepresented populations
- Leading, promoting or participating in ethnic diversity initiatives through specific activities, programs, or projects on campus that establish and foster a more inclusive and equitable learning environment
- Demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence by carrying a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Nomination Packets
Nomination packets should include:
- Completion of the nomination form (found below)
- A nomination letter (not to exceed three pages) that details specific accomplishments or services of the nominee in relationship to the selection criteria noted for the student or employee award
- One letter of support from persons familiar with the nominee’s work that verify the overall impact of the candidate’s commitment to inclusive excellence in equity and ethnic diversity
- Other supporting materials, such as résumés, newspaper or internet articles, may be included

Deadlines
Completed packets may be submitted online, via mail or email. The deadline for employee nominations is December 1. The deadline for student nominations is January 31. The materials can be emailed to ICC[at] matcmadison [dot] edu or sent to the Office of Diversity and Community Relations at the Downtown Campus, Rm D109.
