History of MAAP

Mandatory Assessment, Advising, and Placement (MAAP) is a campus-wide initiative first begun as an AQIP action project during the 2004-2005 academic year as a means to promote student success and retention at Madison Area Technical College. The MAAP project is an essential strategy that will enhance our students’ ability to succeed by placing them in identified, entry-level courses for which they are academically prepared.

MAAP first implemented mandatory placement in all Mathematics courses in 2005 and followed with implementation of MAAP in the area of English during the 2006-2007 academic year. MAAP is currently expanding reading placement for reading intensive courses or courses showing a strong correlation between reading ability and course success.

MAAP is administered within Learner Development by a team comprised of faculty, staff, and administrators from across campus with most centers represented. Contact person for MAAP is James Merritt, Director of Testing and Assessment.
