    Full-Time Provisional Certification

    Requirements for full-time academic & occupational instructional staff

    Initial Certification

    Academic Subject Area(s):

    • Baccalaureate degree with minor or 20 credits in subject area
    • 12 months (2,000 hours) non-education work experience

    Occupational Subject Area(s):

    • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent (occupational experience or appropriate training of 14,000 hours)
    • 24 months (4,000 hours) non-educational work experience in appropriate field

    Renewal

    • Initial certification period is 3 years
    • Renewal is 6 credits in 3 years of required courses #50-69 (see list below in Certification Requirements )
    • Future renewals are 6 credits in two years

    Five-Year Certification

    5 Year:  Full- & part-time occupational & academic instructional staff

    Initial Certification

    Academic Subject Area(s):

    • Baccalaureate degree with major or 30 credits in subject area
    • 12 months (2,000 hours) non-education work experience

    Occupational Subject Area(s):

    • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent (occupational experience or appropriate training of 14,000 hours)
    • 24 months (4,000 hours) non-educational work experience in appropriate field

    2-years teaching experience required for academic and occupational subject areas.
    Completion of in-service/education requirements #50-60.

    Renewal

    • 6 credits each 5 years, or 2 months occupational experience, or other professional activity identified in the District Plan
    • 5 Year Renewal Plan (PDF, 1816KB)
    • Credits earned after May 1 and completed before August 31 of the final year of the certification period may be applied to either the current or next certification period.

    Part-Time Approval Certification

    Initial Certification

    Occupational Subject Area(s):

    • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent (occupational experience or appropriate training of 14,000 hours)
    • 12 months (4,000 hours) non-education work experience in appropriate field

    Renewal

    • Initial certification period is 3 years
    • 2-year renewal period thereafter
    • 2 months occupational experience, plus 10 hours inservice OR
    • 2 credits of inservice/educational requirement #50-69 (see list below in Certification Requirements) or other approved inservice activities

    Part-Time Provisional Certification

    P.T. Provisional:  Part-time academic instructional staff & part-time occupational instructional staff teaching more than 2 program courses per renewal period

    Initial Certification

    • Baccalaureate degree with 20 credits or minor in subject area
    • 12 months (2,000 hours) non-educational work experience

    • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent (occupational experience or appropriate training of 14,000 hours)
    • 24 months (4,000 hours) non-educational work experience in appropriate field

    • Initial certification period is 3 years
    • 2-year renewal period thereafter
    • 2 credits of in-service/education requirements #50-69 (see list below in Certification Requirements)

    • 50 – Curriculum or Course Construction
    • 51 – Philosophy of VTAE
    • 52 – Teaching Methods
    • 53 – Educational Psychology
    • 54 – Educational Evaluation
    • 55 – Guidance and Counseling
    • 69 – Educational Diversity

    Materials/Documentation needed prior to initial certification:

    • Official (original) transcripts from all colleges/universities
    • Completed Verification of Employment forms
    • Copy(s) of licenses/certification
