    What is assessment of learning?

    Ongoing process providing feedback aimed at understanding and improving student learning.

    Why do we assess learning?

    • To provide feedback to students for improvement
    • To obtain student feedback and improve what we do in the classroom
    • To align the measures of student learning with learning outcomes

    How do we assess at Madison College?

    In the classroom: Course assessment uses two types of assessment: formative and summative.

    Examples of the assessment support services for faculty offered by CETL are:

    • Use of classroom assessment techniques (CATs)
    • One-on-one consulting for grading policy development and rubrics
    • Assistance in the design of formative and summative assessment tools for classroom use

    • Assistance in the development of program and course outcomes and Learning Outcomes Matrices (LOM)
    • Assistance and training on the Learning Outcomes Assessment Database (LOAD) for reporting summative assessment results
    • Training on classroom assessment of core abilities and program outcomes

    • Online resources via the Assessment and Curriculum Resources Blackboard site.
