Goal of Madison College Assessment and Curriculum Mentor Program
1. Act as a resource on teaching/learning methodologies, assessment strategies and planning, and curriculum development.
2. Expand the skill and expertise of Assessment and Curriculum Mentors
3. Support teaching and learning enhancements and other needs as identified by Madison College faculty.
Outcome supported by Assessment and Curriculum Mentors
College faculty and staff receive support and assistance needed to successfully implement assessment, for curriculum development and enhancement, and other responsibilities as related to continuous improvement and learner success.
Requirements for Assessment and Curriculum Mentors
1. Completed Certification Course #50: Curriculum and Course Construction (or verified training in Curriculum and Course Design) OR Completed Course #54: Educational Evaluation (or verified training in Assessment).
2. Full-time instructor
3. Approval of Dean
4. Two year commitment to mentor program.
Compensation/Credit
1. Mentors work counts as their 10% service to the college.
2. The two year commitment earns 2 certification credits for mentoring, and up to 2 certification credits for attending workshops, conferences, seminars.
3. Opportunities to participate in curriculum and assessment workshops and conferences, with expenses paid by the Assessment and Curriculum Mentor program.
Potential Activities of Assessment and Curriculum Mentors
1. Assist with the planning and documenting of assessment and curriculum processes.
2. Communicate course development processes, procedures, and best practices in Assessment, Curriculum and Instructional Design at Madison College.
3. Identify various Madison College contacts for Assessment and Curriculum support.
4. Share curriculum and course design best practices and facilitate learning with mentor team.
5. Share classroom assessment best practices and facilitate learning with mentor team.
6. Provide leadership in the development of component/activities for online/ or face to face training modules for assessment techniques and the LOAD-Learning Outcomes Assessment Data Base.
7. Support processes as defined by the Division of Learner Success for the Outlines of Instruction, including syllabus development and other materials related to the Outline.
8. Provide leadership in the development of training workshops and modules for assessment, curriculum development, and other learning opportunities that will enhance teaching and learning.
9. Discuss with instructors successful strategies for teaching/learning which actively engage students and which will best meet planned outcomes.
10. Work as a collaborative team to develop strategies and techniques to plan for and assess student learning outcomes.
11. Attend conferences and training for professional growth in assessment and curriculum development.
12. Maintain an accurate log of mentoring activities.
Criteria for choosing Assessment and Curriculum Mentors (not shown in any priority order):
1. Representation from a variety of departments and regional campuses.
2. Interest in use of classroom assessment techniques for improvement of student learning.
3. Interest in designing, developing, and modifying curriculum and teaching activities to enhance, augment, or support student learning.
4. Actively engaged in development of classroom assessment best practices.
5. Faculty time available.
6. Agreement to assist in the development and presentation of various workshops, courses and activities.
7. Commitment to attend three meetings a semester.
