Changes to Student Home Directories (H Drives)

Madison Area Technical College student network file storage and access was relocated and upgraded for the Fall 2011 semester. Your student home directory or H drive is a folder or storage area that is located on a college network server. When you log on to a computer on campus with your username and password, you are automatically connected to your home directory. You can also access these files remotely when off-campus.

    • When you log on to a Windows XP or Windows 7 campus computer with your username and password, you will be connected to your new Home Directory.
    • Access your new home directory and files from off-campus using FileWay, a new and improved system.

    Improvements

    • Home directory space for students was increased to 150 MB. Previously, students were limited to only 15 MB.
    • The new off-campus remote file access system, FileWay, is easier to use.
    •  Home directories were relocated and upgraded, with improved access options.
    • These changes will allow the college to update other related technology resources for students.

    Transition

    • New home directories for students were created in August 2011.
    • Existing files were not automatically copied or moved to the new home directory.
    • Files saved prior to the transition were archived and could be accessed using the IUADMIN system until December 2011. After January 2012, contact the Student Computer Help Desk with questions about your previous files.
