    Federal Pell Grant

This gift-based federal program is designed to provide grants to students based on financial need. A maximum award is determined annually by federal guidelines.

    • To receive a 100-percent award, the student must be enrolled in 12 or more credits.
    • To receive a 75-percent award, the student must be enrolled in 9, 10 or 11 credits.
    • To receive a 50-percent award, the student must be enrolled in 6, 7 or 8 credits.

Students enrolled in remedial courses may be recommended for additional Pell Grants by an advisor or counselor, provided they are enrolled in at least 6 college degree credits.

Less-then-halftime students (fewer than 6 college degree credits) may be eligible to obtain Pell Grant funding if they are determined eligible based on the FAFSA results.

Students with remaining PELL eligibility at the end of the academic year may qualify for Summer PELL funding. For more information, see the Summer Financial Aid web page.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

As provided under the Higher Education Act, FSEOG grants are available to students on the basis of financial need. Students must be enrolled at least half time and must be eligible for a Pell Grant to receive the FSEOG. FSEOG grants are extremely limited and are available only to high-need students who apply early.

    Academic Competitive Grant (ACG)

The ACG is provided to students in their first year of their program who have completed a rigorous secondary school program after January 1. 2006.  It is also available to students in the second year of their program as long as they have completed their rigorous secondary school program after January 1, 2005.  Second year students must have at least a 3.0 GPA at the end of the first academic year.  The student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and enrolled at least ½ time in a degree program.

    Wisconsin Higher Education Grant (WHEG)

The WHEG amount is calculated by the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board and is based on financial need. Students must be Wisconsin residents and enrolled at least half time.

    Minority Student Grant Program

This program is designed to improve retention and increase graduation opportunities for second-year students enrolled in a two-year program. Students who have completed at least 50% of credits required in a two-year program may be eligible for the Minority Grant. Students must also show financial need and be enrolled at least half time (6 credits). The Minority Student Grant Program provides financial assistance to African-American, Hispanic, Native American and Southeast Asian (Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese) students.

    Native American Assistance Grant

Grants for Native American students are available through the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The grant amount is based on financial need. FASFA procedures, as previously outlined, must be followed in determining financial need. In addition, a student must complete a separate Indian Scholarship Application for the purpose of certification by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as to the degree of Indian blood. A student must be enrolled full time to receive a Bureau of Indian Affairs Grant and half time to receive a State Indian Assistance Grant.

    Talent Incentive Grant (TIP)

This program supplements the WHEG program and is targeted to serve disadvantaged and/or minority students. Contact the Financial Aid Office for further information.

    Wisconsin Hearing/Visually Handicapped Program

This state program was established to provide funding for Wisconsin residents with a severe or profound hearing or visual impairment.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled at least half-time.  First-time applicants must have their degree of hearing or visual impairment certified by a physician.  Further certification is not required to continue receiving the grant in subsequent years.
