Student email FAQ for Staff

Q: Do students use the same email system as staff?

A: On January 24th, 2011 students will be migrated to Outlook Web App 2010. Currently, staff and faculty use Outlook Web Access 2007. Eventually, they will also be upgraded to Outlook Web App 2010. In either Outlook system email global address list, you will be able to locate student, faculty and staff contact information.

Q: If I am an employee and also a student, do I get two accounts?

A: Yes, you will have an employee account and a student account. The policies, allocations and permissions vary with different categories of accounts. You will have two accounts with two usernames and passwords. Additional information for Student Workers / Student Help.

Q: What can staff do to assist students with this transition?

A: You can them to the student email help web pages for additional information and online resources.

Q. What are the new student email addresses?

A. New student email addresses will be: username@matcmadison.edu after January 24th, the same as used by staff and faculty. With the old Novell student email, student email addresses were: username@stu.matcmadison.edu.

For students with active new student email accounts, email sent to an old "@stu.matcmadison.edu" address will be automatically forwarded to their new accounts.

Q. Why was a message sent to a former student returned as undeliverable?

A. After January 24th, if students were not registered for spring courses, and do not reset their password to activate their new email account, any email sent to their old or new student email address will be undeliverable.

Q. What about my personal email lists or contacts?

A. For students with active new student email accounts, email sent to an old "@stu.matcmadison.edu" address will be automatically forwarded to their new account.

After January 24th, you may start updating your personal contact lists or groups with the new "@matcmadison.edu" addresses.

Remember that after January 24th, if a student's account is not active, email sent to either their old or new student email address will be undeliverable.
