Batteries

As part of its overall Environmental Stewardship efforts, the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) office is pleased to announce a "Battery Recycling Program" for the campus community. The goal of this program is to improve how used/spent batteries (for example, alkaline, NiCd, Lithium, etc) are collected throughout our campuses and recycled for environmental compliance. Follow the below guidelines and if you have any questions, please contact the EH&S Office for support.

Used or spent lead-acid, alkaline, button and rechargeable batteries are to be collected and recycled as universal waste, in accordance with Federal, State and local regulatory codes.

  • Drop off all types of used batteries at your collection point.
  • Collection point locations:
    • At Truax campus - Room 109B and Parts Stores both have collection bins
    • Contact the EH&S Office for other collection points (x6291).
  • See Fact Sheet for Battery Disposal for guidelines.
  • Contact the EH&S Office if you have any questions (x6291) .
  • The batteries will be transported from the collection points to the a hazardous storage area, and sorted by the EH&S Office staff. Collection point staff should contact the EH&S Office to coordinate pickup (x6291).
  • Note that alkaline batteries can be disposed of in the general trash, but collection points will also take them for recylcing.
