
English/Reading and Other Course Placement Levels
What is needed to take an English course?
Students must complete one (1) of the following:
- The course prerequisite taken at Madison College or another college with a final grade of "C" or better.
- Appropriate COMPASS e-Write, Writing and Reading scores taken within the last 2 years.

Writing Skills and Grammar Review Resources:
- Sample COMPASS Writing Skills Test Questions - These sample writing questions from the COMPASS English Test that will show you the format and style of the test.
- The Loft's Writing Center Plus Resources - Some excellent resources from North Seattle Community College's Writing Center Plus providing links to numerous resources on the internet.
- Guide to Grammar and Writing - This site features with topic-specific information such as handouts, quizzes, PowerPoints, peripherals, links and other study aids.
- Guide to Grammar and Style - Use the A-Z list to find a specific topic or use the links to find a large number of references.
- Kapi'olani Community College Test Preparation - This site provides an overview of advice on preparing for the COMPASS test.
- Study Guide - Writing, essays, vocabulary and spelling resources and links.
Reading Skills Review Resources:
- Sample COMPASS Reading Test Questions - This site provides sample reading questions from the COMPASS English Test that will show you the format and style of the test.
- Reading Test Screen Shots - This site gives a number of questions and will further familiarize you with the test's layout and content.
