About the program
This program prepares technicians to assist civil engineers in planning, scheduling,
designing, estimating, surveying and inspecting the construction of highways, bridges,
buildings, and other structures. Specific courses provide a student with the option for a
career in land surveying.
Typical Job Description
An engineering technician works in conjunction with and in direct support of the civil
engineer. The technician assists with construction project plans development and prepares
or revises drawings and specifications. The technician performs material tests and
conducts onsite project inspections. A surveying emphasis option provides the opportunity
to attain professional surveying licensure. In that capacity the person can be involved
with and responsible for construction layout, topographic mapping, GPS surveying, property
surveying, and land development.

Land Surveying Registration
The following two electives, taken in addition to required surveying courses, allow
students to meet land surveyor registration educational requirements as defined in Chapter
A-E 6.04 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code. Students interested in a career in
Land Surveying should consider taking these two
courses:
