Wisconsin law allows employees
who worked at least 1000 hours in the previous year to take the following
unpaid leaves in a calendar year:
1. Up to 6 weeks for the birth or adoption of a child.
2. Up to 2 weeks to care for a child, spouse, or parent suffering from
a serious health condition.
3. Up to 2 weeks for an employee to care for his/her own serious health
condition.
Federal law allows employees
who worked at least 1250 hours in the past year to take up to 12 weeks
of leave in a year for one or more of the following reasons:
1. The birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
2. To care for a child, spouse, or parent suffering from a serious health
condition.
3. To care for his/her own serious health condition.
Generally, employees needing
family leave should request leave as far in advance as practical. Medical
certification will be required in many cases. Contact Human Resources
for assistance in planning and applying for leaves under the family/medical
leave acts.
