Goal of MATC Curriculum Mentoring Program
- Act as a resource on teaching/learning methodologies and curriculum development for faculty.
- Expand the skill and expertise of Curriculum Mentors
- Act as a resource that supports teaching and learning enhancements and other needs as identified by MATC faculty.
Outcome supported by Curriculum Mentors
College faculty and staff receive support and assistance needed for curriculum development, enhancements to teaching and learning processes and strategies, and other responsibilities as related to continuous improvement and learner success.
Requirements for Curriculum Mentors
- Completed Certification Course #50 or verified training in Curriculum and Course Design.
- Full-time instructor
- Approval of Dean
- Two year commitment to mentor program.
Potential Activities for Curriculum Mentors
- Assist with the planning and documenting of curriculum processes.
- Communicate course development processes, procedures, and best practices in Curriculum and Instructional Design at MATC.
- Identify various MATC contacts for Curriculum support.
- Share curriculum and course design best practices and facilitate learning with other mentors.
- Support processes as defined by the Division of Learner Success for the Outlines of Instruction, including syllabus development and other materials related to the Outline.
- Provide leadership in the development of training workshops and modules for curriculum development and other learning opportunities that will enhance teaching and learning.
- Assist instructors on developing learning outcomes for courses, as well as discuss successful strategies for teaching/learning which actively engage students and which will best meet planned outcomes.
- Assist Assessment mentors and/or CETL Assessment Consultant in developing strategies and techniques to assess student learning outcomes
- Attend conferences and training for professional growth in curriculum development.
- Keep an accurate log of mentoring activities.
Criteria for choosing Curriculum Mentors (not shown in any priority order):
- Representation from a variety of departments and regional campuses.
- Interest in designing, developing, and modifying curriculum and teaching activities to enhance, augment, or support student learning.
- Actively engaged in curriculum revision, development, and design processes.
- Faculty time available.
- Agreement to assist in the development and presentation of various workshops, including but not limited to Certification Course #50: Curriculum and Course Design, Learning to Learn Camp, Learning Academy, and others as developed.
- Commitment to attend three meetings a semester.
Compensation/Credit
- Mentors work counts as their 10% service to the college.
- The two year commitment earns 2 certification credits for mentoring, and opportunities for 2 certification credits, pending attendance at workshops, conferences, and seminars.
- Opportunities to participate in curriculum workshops and conferences, with expenses paid by the Curriculum Mentor program.
