How to Apply to the Associate Degree Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Program at MATC
- Get a copy of the standard MATC Application Form which is available at the back of the MATC catalog. You can also pick up an application at any MATC campus. Or, you can call 246-6101 to have an application mailed to you. Alternatively, you can apply to MATC online. http://www.witechcolleges.com/apply.htm
- Return the Application Form to MATC along with a non-refundable application fee of $30. (If you paid this $30 in the past, you do not need to pay again. By mail, use a check or money order. Online, pay by credit card.)
- Send your official high school transcript and/or GED/HSED scores (and post-high school transcript(s), when applicable) to MATC Admissions. MATC retains transcripts from other schools/colleges for a period of two years.
- Send a list of senior subjects and credits, if you are currently enrolled in high school, to MATC admissions.
- Look for an acceptance letter once your application is complete and MATC has received your transcripts.
- If you have not completed high school algebra and/or high school chemistry, you will be accepted to the Biotechnology Program with the provision that you will need to take equivalent courses at MATC before beginning Biotechnology courses.
- Next, take COMPASS (http://matcmadison.edu/matc/getstarted/admissions/compass.shtm) college placement tests. (The Biotechnology Program does not use SATs or ACT scores.)
- After you take the tests, contact the Biotechnology advisor whose name is on your acceptance letter and set up an appointment. Your advisor will help you plan your schedule of courses so you will be ready to register for classes. You will not be able to register for classes until you have taken the COMPASS tests and talked to an advisor.
- Attend orientation/registration. After you are accepted into the Biotechnology program, you will be scheduled for an orientation and registration session. You will be notified by mail as to the date of the next MATC session. Orientation is integrated with the registration process. A general orientation for new students will include a review of campus policies and procedures, student services and campus resources.
At the end of orientation you will register for your classes. Be sure that you have taken the COMPASS tests and talked to a Biotechnology advisor before this orientation session so you know what courses to take. If you are not able to attend the regular orientation and registration session, there are drop-in orientation sessions for new students in July, August and January. Call the Assessment Center at (608) 246-5220 for dates and locations.
- You’re set to begin your courses the first week of classes!!
