Be a Tutor
Each academic year, 150-200 individuals are hired for peer tutoring positions at Madison College. If you demonstrate academic excellence in specific courses (documented by a final grade of B or better) and have a desire to help others, you may have the qualifications to become a peer tutor.
Peer tutors are able to schedule tutoring sessions around their own coursework and other commitments – working anywhere from 1-19 hours per week, depending on the demand for help in various subject areas.
There are a few steps necessary to become a Peer Tutor:
-Schedule a Tutor Orientation. Make your interest known to the Peer Tutor Coordinator by calling 608-246-6731 or via jrockman[at] matcmadison [dot] edu (subject: Interest%20in%20Peer%20Tutoring) (email). You will be asked to schedule about 30 minutes for an orientation to the tutoring program.
-Complete and return the necessary paperwork. You may choose to download and complete these forms prior to the orientation or you can pick them up at the orientation.
-Participate in the paid training. See the link on the right for a complete explanation of the training.
-Receive assignments as a Freelance or Learning Center tutor. Depending on the time of year, it can take a week or two before you are assigned a student. The orientation explains in detail how this happens.
