WolfPack Fall in Championship to Ridgewater
Posted 5-11-08 - After a rainout on Saturday, the Region XIII-A Tournament in Willmar, MN, resumed on Sunday.
In the first game, MATC fell behind early, trailing 8-0 before they scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning. The WolfPack surrendered sixteen hits for the game and fell 8-1. Margaret Fichter received the loss as she pitched a complete game striking out one and giving up seven earned runs. Five MATC batters were 1-for-3 and Nicole Salis had the game's only RBI for the WolfPack.
In the second game, with the region title and berth in the national tournament on the line, the #3 team in the nation, Ridgewater College, stifled the WolfPack offense as they managed just four hits over the first six innings. Meanwhile, Ridgewater jumped out to a 7-0 lead with two multiple run innings. MATC scored three runs in the top of the seventh but it was too late as they fell 7-3.
Chelsa Bednarek once again excelled as she was 3-for-4 with an RBI while teammate Brittany Kalscheur also contributed with two RBIs on 1-for-3 hitting. Righthander Kristen Bechtolt pitched a complete game giving up five earned runs and striking out one. MATC finished the season with a 10-15 overall record.
MATC Wins Two Games at Region Tournament
Posted 5-9-08 - MATC Softball won their first two games on the first day of the NJCAA Region XIII-A Softball Tournament in Willmar, MN.
In the first game, MATC's Kristen Bechtolt pitched a complete game five hit shutout to shut down Minnesota State Community & Technical College. The WolfPack scored five runs in the first inning and added three more runs to win 8-0. Secondbaseman Chelsea Bednarek was 4-for-4 while teammate Andee Brown went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
In the second game, the WolfPack led by second year pitcher, Margaret Fichter beat the #3 nationally ranked Ridgewater College, 3-2. Fichter pitched a complete game, striking out six and giving up just two earned runs. The WolfPack did not commit an error and Chelsa Bednarek continued her hot hitting as she went 2-for-4. The win puts the WolfPack in the championship game for the second straight year.
Region Softball Tournament Bracket Set
Posted 5-6-08 - The NJCAA Region XIII-A Softball Tournament bracket is now set. The region tournament will be held in Willmar, MN on Friday-Saturday, May 9-10.
MATC willl face Minnesota State Community & Technical College-Fergus Falls in the first game of the double-elimination tournament at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 9th.

MATC Falls to NCAA Division III Findlandia
Posted 5-4-08 - After having a game cancelled due to snow in Michigan on Saturday, the WolfPack Softball team played a seven-inning game on Sunday versus NCAA Division III Findlandia University from Hancock, MI.
The WolfPack fell behind early giving up six runs over the first two innings before MATC battled back with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Findlandia added two more runs in the sixth inning while MATC managed just one in the seventh, falling 8-5. Margaret Fichter received the loss pitching a complete game, striking out seven and giving up eight earned runs. Shortstop Andee Brown was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
MATC Struggles Against NJCAA Division II
Posted 4-27-08 - The MATC Softball team struggled against NJCAA Division II McHenry County College on Sunday, April 27 in Crystal Lake, IL. The game was originally scheduled as a home game but was moved due to weather.
In the first game, the Fighting Scots scored runs in every inning as they beat the WolfPack 9-1 in five innings. MATC managed just four hits to go with four errors whiel Margaret Fichter gave up six earned runs and nine hits in four innings of work. Kritsen Bechtolt was 1-for-2 with a double.
In the second game, the host McHenry County College Fighting Scots once again jumped all over the visiting WolfPack scoring eleven runs over the first four innings. MATC lost 11-1 in five innings as Kristen Bechtolt received the loss with eight earned runs given up in four innings of work. Fomer Fennimore H.S. athlete, Nicole Salis was 2-for-2.
MATC Splits Against #8 Ranked Joliet JC
Posted 4-26-08 - On Saturday, April 26, MATC played an away doubleheader that was originally scheduled as a home doubleheader in Joliet, IL. The WolfPack split with the #8 ranked Joliet Junior College Wolves.
In the first game, MATC committed three errors and could not capitalize on four Joliet errors as they fell 5-3. Margaret Fichter pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits and giving up just one earned run. Kayla Adams was 2-for-2 with a double, triple and RBI while teammate Andee Brown was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
In the second game, first year pitcher, Kristen Bechtolt pitched a complete game three hit shutout to earn her third win of the season. MATC scored six runs as Chelsa Bednarek was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Andee Brown also posted two RBIs as she went 1-for-4. The WolfPack won 6-0 in seven innings.

Posted 4-25-08 - Both Saturday and Sunday home games have been cancelled for the MATC Softball team.
MATC Softball Loses Two Against Lake County
Posted 4-20-08 - MATC Softball lost both games of the home doubleheader against College of Lake County to push their overall record to 6-8.
In the first game, MATC fell behind early and could never recover as the visiting Lancers scored four runs in the first inning. Margaret Fichter received the loss despite only giving up one earned run in seven innings of work. Andee Brown was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the second game, MATC again fell behind early, giving up six runs over the first two innings and never could recover, losing 7-3. Kristen Bechtolt pitched a complete game, only giving up one earned run. Jenny Norton and Andee Brown were each 2-for-3 as MATC fell to 6-8 overall on the season.
MATC Softball Ranked #7 In Nation in Poll
Posted 4-17-08 - MATC Softball team was ranked #7 in the nation in the most recent NJCAA Division III Softball Poll released on April 16.
MATC Loses Two Versus Marion College
Posted 4-16-08 - MATC Softball lost both games of the doubleheader to Marion College JV in Fond du Lac, WI on Tuesday, April 15.
In the first game, MATC was tied 2-2 until the bottom of the sixth when Marion scored two runs. Those two runs were all Marion needed as they won 4-2. Kristen Bechtolt threw a complete game, but earned the loss as she gave up eight hits and one earned run. Katie Howard went 1-for-3 at the plate.
In the second game, the WolfPack commited five errors in the game and could never recover as Marian College JV won the game 5-0. Margaret Fichter also threw a complete game, but gave up five hits and one earned run to receive the loss. Jenna Brown went 1-for-3 with a double.
MATC Splits Home Doubleheader with DuPage
Posted 4-5-08 - MATC Softball split their home debut doubleheader with the College of DuPage on Friday, April 4.
In the first game, MATC used a six run fifth inning to break open a 4-3 game. DuPage answered with three runs in the top of the sixth and MATC answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. MATC overcame fourteen DuPage hits and three WolfPack errors to win, 13-6. Margaret Fichter earned her fourth win of the season as she pitched a complete game, striking out five and only giving up two earned runs. Jenna Brown was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI while teammates Kayla Adams and Rachel Klaas were each 2-for-2 with 2 RBI.
In the second game, the WolfPack allowed back-to-back three run innings in the fourth and fifth innings as they fell 6-2 to College of DuPage. Katie Howard was 3-for-3 with a double and triple. Kristen Bechtolt received the loss pitching a complete game, striking out three and allowing four earned runs.

MATC Splits Doubleheader with Joliet JC
Posted 3-28-08 - The MATC Softball team split a pair of games with Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL on Friday, March 28.
In the first game, MATC weathered seventeen hits from the host Wolves to win 8-7 in seven innings. Leading 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh the Wolves scored five runs to close within one run but MATC got out of the inning to win their fifth game of the season. Kristen Bechtolt pitched a complete game, striking out three and earning her second win of the season. Secondbaseman Chelsa Bednarek went 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Rachel Klaas went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Catcher Jenny Norton also had two RBIs in the win.
In the second game, the WolfPack out hit the host Wolves but committed four errors as MATC fell 6-2. Shortshop Andee Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI while teammates Kayla Adams, Katie Howard, and Margaret Fichter all went 1-for-2. Fichter received her first loss of the season as she pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs.
WolfPack Split, Move to 4-2 on Spring Trip
Posted 3-21-08 - The WolfPack Softball team pushed their overall record to 4-2 as they split the final series of their spring trip with NJCAA Division I St. Louis Community College - Florissant in St. Louis, MO.
In the first game, the WolfPack scored eight runs on eleven hits to win 8-4. Rachel Klaas was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs while teammate Jenna Brown went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Katie Howard also went 2-for-4 while second year righthander, Margaret Fichter improved her record to 3-0, striking out six and only giving up one earned run in five innings of work.
In the second game, MATC could only manage three hits as they fell 3-0. Kristen Bechtolt received the loss as she pitched four innings, striking out four and giving up three earned runs.
MATC Wins Two from St. Louis CC-Forest Park
Posted 3-21-08 - The MATC Softball team took two from NJCAA Division II St. Louis CC - Forest Park, in St. Louis, MO, pushing their record to 3-1 on the young season.
In the first game, MATC received a complete game scoreless three-hitter from first year righthander Kristen Bechtolt. She struck out three and walked only one in seven innings of work. MATC scored all their runs in the first inning to win 2-0. Chelsa Bednarek was 2-for-4.
In the second game, the WolfPack broke open a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh with three runs. Chelsa Bednarek, Jenny Rahn and Rachael Klaas all went 2-for-3 and Margaret Fichter pitched a complete game, striking out four, giving up two earned runs to received the win.
MATC Splits Season Debut Doubleheader
Posted 3-20-08 - The MATC Softball team split their season debut doubleheader versus Lindenwood Unviersity JV at the Jamestown Sports Complex in St. Louis, Missouri.
In the first game, MATC fell 11-3 to Lindenwood University JV. MATC managed seven hits and three runs but five errors hurt the WolfPack. Kristen Bechtolt received the loss as she started the game and pitched four innings, giving up three earned runs.
In the second game, MATC had four multi-run innings including the fifth innings when they plated five. Former Wauankee athlete, Katie Howard went 5-for-5 with four RBIs and one homerun to lead the WolfPack while teammates Andee Brown and and Jenna Brown each contributed with three RBIs. Margaret Fichter received the win, pitching seven innings, striking out three and only giving up two earned runs.
MATC Softball Hires New Head Softball Coach
Posted 12-21-07 - Director of Athletics, Steve Hauser, announced today that Del Schneeberger has been hired as the new head softball coach at Madison Area Technical College (MATC). Coach Schneeberger will be replacing Boo Gillette who left this fall to take an assistant coaching position at Purdue University. Gillette guided the WolfPack to a #10 national ranking and a 11-8 record in the program’s inaugural season.
Schneeberger has over 27 years of experience as a head high school coach having led the Johnson Creek program from 1980-2006. Schneeberger’s career high school record at Johnson Creek was 323-194. His teams won ten WIAA regional championships and made multiple appearances at the WIAA State High School Softball Tournament.
“We are very happy to have Coach Schneeberger join us as the new head softball coach at MATC. Del brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table and has exhibited a tremendous passion for the game of softball throughout his life. We are confident that Del will be a positive and respected leader for our intercollegiate softball program,” says Director of Athletics, Steve Hauser.
Coach Schneeberger has been an active member of the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (WFSCA) since its inception and served as a WFSCA Executive Board member from 1998-2007. He is a native of Evansville, WI, and taught for 28 years at Johnson Creek Elementary School, prior to his retirement from teaching in 2006. He attended undergraduate and graduate school at UW-Whitewater where he earned both Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees.
“I am very excited about the opportunity of being the head softball coach at MATC. It has long been a goal of mine to coach at the collegiate level and MATC is the perfect fit”, commented Coach Schneeberger. “I am looking forward to getting the word out to coaches, student-athletes and their parents about the wonderful educational and intercollegiate softball opportunities available at MATC. I look forward to working with the student-athletes and in helping them grow and experience success on and off the field.”
Boo Gillette Headed to Purdue University
Posted 9-21-07 - MATC's Head Softball Coach, Boo Gillette, has accepted a job as an assistant softball coach at NCAA Division I Purdue University. Gillette, a former Wisconsin softball standout, coached the WolfPack in the team's 2007 inaugural season.
The 2007 team finished the season ranked #10 in the nation in the final NJCAA Division III Softball Poll. The team compiled a 11-8 overall record in a weather shortened schedule and ended up a game shy of the national tournament as they were NJCAA Region XIII-A runner-up.
The hiring process for a new coach has already started.
