Dan Putnam, Lucas Annen Sign Division I
Posted 6-18-08 - Madison Area Technical College two-year outfielder, Dan Putnam, signed to play next year at the University of Central Arkansas, a NCAA Division I university in Conway, Arkansas. Putnam was an all-conference and all-state selection this season for the WolfPack.  Putnam, a four-sport athlete from Ashland H.S., was also second on the team in RBIs and stolen bases this year.

Lucas Annen, a former DeForest H.S. standout, signed with NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee.  Annen pitched for the WolfPack during the past two seasons.  This year, Annen was 2-0 with a 2.98 ERA in 45.1 innings of work.


Evan Kohli Signs with NCAA D.I Illinois State
Posted 6-12-08 - All-American Evan Kohli, starting first-basemen and pitcher for the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Baseball team signed with NCAA Division I Illinois State University. The former Hutchinson H.S. (Hutchinson, MN) standout, played two seasons for the WolfPack and is currently playing summer baseball for the Madison Mallards.

This spring, Kohli become the fifteenth All-American in MATC Baseball history and the fifth MATC Baseball player in the last five years to receive All-American honors when he was named NJCAA Division II Third Team All-American.


Former MATC Lefthander Drafted by Royals
Posted 6-12-08 - Former MATC lefthander, Steve Gilgenbach, who played for the WolfPack during the 2006 season, was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 47th round (1399 overall) of the 2008 First-Year Major League Player Draft. Gilgenbach, a standout athlete at Fond Du Lac H.S., is currently a senior at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.


MATC's Evan Kohli Receives All-American Honors
Posted 6-2-08 -Evan Kohli, starting first-basemen and pitcher for the 2008 Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Baseball team and former Hutchinson H.S. (Hutchinson, MN) standout, has become the fifteenth All-American in MATC Baseball history and the fifth MATC Baseball player in the last five years to receive All-American honors.  Kohli received third team NJCAA Division II All-American honors for his play this season.

Kohli was second team in batting average (.375), slugging percentage (.514), hits (54), and doubles (15) during his sophomore season at MATC.  On the mound, Kohli made a team-high ten starts while posting a 5-3 record to go with a 3.46 ERA.  Kohli is currently playing in the Northwoods League for the Madison Mallards.


WolfPack Players Receive All-District Honors
Posted 5-29-08 -Three Madison Area Technical College (MATC) baseball players received National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-District honors this season.  MATC players receiving the honors include:

The Madison Area Technical College Baseball team won its second straight region title and the fourth region title in the last five years to advance to the District Tournament in Boone, IA.  MATC advanced to the tournament final before losing to the eventual tournament champion and national tournament qualifier, Des Moines Area Community College.  MATC finished the season with a 38-19 overall record.

Posted 5-22-08 -Eight Madison Area Technical College (MATC) baseball players received Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) all-conference honors this season. MATC players receiving the honors include:

The Madison Area Technical College Baseball team won their seventeenth straight WTCC title as they were 10-0 in conference play this season.


MATC Loses in District Championship Game
Posted 5-18-08 - In the NJCAA Northwest District Championship game, in Boone, IA, MATC managed just four hits and committed four errors as they fell behind early to Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).

After trailing 4-0 after four innings, MATC scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull within two runs. Unfortunately, DMACC answered in the sixth inning with two runs of its own and added one run in the eighth. MATC managed just one hit over the final four innings to lose, 7-2. With the win, DMACC earned their first NJCAA World Series trip since 1982.

Righthander Jayme Sukowaty received the loss despite striking out four and giving up just two earned runs in five innings of work. Four WolfPack players posted one hit while Matt Kabele and Dan Putnam each had an RBI.

The WolfPack finished the season as conference and region champions with an overall record of 39-17.


MATC Battles Back to Beat Miles CC, Play Tomorrow for National Tourney Berth
Posted 5-17-08 - In the second game of the NJCAA Northwest District Tournament, in Boone, IA, MATC faced Miles Community College in a must-win game in order to advance in the tournament.

The WolfPack twice battled back after trailing by multiple runs. After falling behind in the first inning, 4-1, MATC rallied to tie the game, 4-4, in the fourth inning. After three runs by Miles in the next two innings MATC trailed 7-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. In the sixth inning, the WolfPack bats exploded for five hits and six runs to take the lead for good. MATC went on to win 11-7.

MATC batters accounted for sixteen hits in the game including two triples and a home run. Firstbaseman Joe Nartowicz accounted for four hits as he was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, a triple and a home run. Rightfielder Jeremy Richter was 3-for-5 with three RBIs including a triple while Mark Strey and Dan Putnam were both 2-for-4.

Cody Winiarski received his sixth win of the season by pitching four solid innings, only giving up four hits and one earned run in relief. With the win, MATC plays Des Moines Area Community College tomorrow (Sunday) for the right to advance to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Millington, TN. In order for MATC to advance they must win two games.


MATC Falls to DMACC in NJCAA District Opener
Posted 5-17-08 - In the opening game of the NJCAA Northwest District Tournamen, in Boone, IA, MATC scored one run in the first inning to take the lead but that would prove to be the WolfPack's only lead of game.

The tournament host, Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning and preceeded to add six more runs over the final six innings. Meanwhile, MATC managed only one run as the WolfPack fell 10-2.

While MATC starting pitcher, Kyle Barry, struck out nine batters in six innings of work he also gave up six earned runs on ten hits to receive the loss. Leftfielder Evan Kohli was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to lead MATC in hitting while teammates, Joe Nartowicz and Jim Lundstrom each posted an RBI going 1-for-3.


MATC Baseball Will Play DMACC in Districts
Posted 5-14-08 - The MATC Baseball team will play Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in the first game of the District Tournament on Saturday, May 17 in Boone, Iowa. Game time is 11:00 AM.

In the second game, on Saturday, MATC will play Miles Community College at 2:00 PM. If MATC wins one of the two games they will play on Sunday for the right to advance to the national tournament.


WolfPack Win Second Straight Region Title
Posted 5-11-08 - MATC Baseball won its second consecutive NJCAA Region XIII title as they jumped all over Williston State College in the first three innings. The WolfPack scored eight runs on seven hits over those first three innings to push out to an early 8-0 lead. Williston put three runs on the board in the sixth inning and added another two runs in the seventh but that would be as close as they got. MATC addded three more runs over the final two innings to win 11-5.

Firstbasemen David Lojeski was 3-for-4 with an RBI while teammate Evan Kohli was 3-for-5. Catcher Luke Marwitz recorded a game high three RBIs and was 1-for-2 for the game. Righthander Cody Winiarski earned his fifth win of the season as he struck out eight and gave up no earned runs in seven inning of work. Lucas Annen pitched two innings in relief giving up just one hit.

The region title was the program's second straight and fourth in the last five years. MATC advances to the NJCAA District Title Series on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 at a site yet to be determined.


Barry Shuts Out Williston, MATC Wins 14-0
Posted 5-10-08 - Second year righthander, Kyle Barry shut out Williston State College, striking out seven and only giving up one hit in five innings of work in the NJCAA Region XIII second round game. Barry improved his pitching record to 6-3 on the season.

With two outs in the fifth inning, MATC scored thirteen runs on ten hits to put the game away. Taylor Schwarz and Jim Lundstrom were each 2-for-3 with Schwarz posting a game high three RBIs. Three other WolfPack players went 2-for-4 with two RBIs including Jeremy Richter, Joe Nartowicz and Evan Kohli.

With the win, MATC advances to the region final on Sunday.


WolfPack Rout Bismarck in Opening Game
Posted 5-9-08 - The MATC Baseball team routed their first round opponent, Bismarck State College, 17-4, in their opening game of the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in Mandan, ND.

MATC started the game off, in the first at-bat, with a solo homerun by second year shortshop, Matt Kabele. Then, trailing 3-2 going into the top of the third inning, MATC broke the game open with nine runs on seven hits. The WolfPack ended up scoring at least one run in every inning, adding four more in the seveth, to win 17-4.

MATC posted fifteen hits in the game and were led by second year shortstop, Matt Kabele, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a sole homerun. Leftfielder Evan Kohli was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while teammate Jim Lundstrom went 2-for-5 with a game-high four RBIs. Joe Nartowicz and David Lojeski were also each 2-for-4. First year righthander, Jayme Sukowaty received the win as he pitched a complete game, striking out five and giving up just two earned runs. With the win, MATC plays Williston State College tomorrow (May 10) at noon.

Posted 5-6-08 - The NJCAA Region XIII Baseball Tournament Bracket is set and the WolfPack will play Bismarck State College on Friday, May 9 at 2:00 PM at Mandan Veterans Memorial Ballpark (Dave Ressler Field) in Mandan, ND.

MATC Falls to Elgin in Regular Season Finale
Posted 5-6-08 - In the final game of the regular season MATC hosted Elgin Community College in a one nine-inning game at Robin Roberts Field.

After MATC scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Elgin lead to 7-5, Elgin answered in a big way, scoring eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to put the game away. The WolfPack lost 15-5 as a platoon of eight MATC pitchers gave up thirteen hits. First year lefthander, Bob Stone received the loss as MATC pitchers received a tune-up for the regional tournament this weekend.

On the offensive side, Dan Putnam and Taylor Schwarz each went 2-for-3 while teammates Evan Kohli and John Murphy both going 1-for-2.


MATC Win Streak Ends, Splits Doubleheader
Posted 5-4-08 - MATC Baseball lost their first game since April 20th on Sunday.  The WolfPack ended their winning streak of sixteen straight games with a 5-1 loss to South Suburban College in the first game.  However, the WolfPack would win the second game of the doubleheader by the score of 4-0 at Robin Roberts Field in Madison, WI.

In the first game, with the game tied, 1-1, South Suburban scored three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead and added another in the seventh to win 5-1.

Rightfielder, Drew Tometczak led the WolfPack at the plate by going 2-for-3.  Evan Kohli threw four and two-thirds innings giving up three earned runs before handing the game over to Lucas Annen.  Annen came in to finish the game and allowed only one earned run to cross the plate.

In the second game, MATC scored all four runs in the second inning and went on to win behind an excellent pitching performance by second year righthander, Kyle Barry. Barry threw a complete game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out two.  Shortstop, Matt Kabele went 1-for-3 with a double to drive in two RBIs.


MATC Wins Two Against Kishwaukee College
Posted 5-3-08 - MATC Baseball defeated Kishwaukee College 6-3 and 11-1 at Robin Roberts Field in Madison, WI on Saturday posting their fifteenth and sixteenth straight victories and seventh consecutive doubleheader sweep.

In the first game, with the game tied, 1-1, going into the sixth inning, both teams started the scoring. Kishwaukee scored two runs in the sixth but MATC answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning.  The WolfPack won 6-3 in seven innings.  Second year shortstop, Matt Kabele went 2-for-4 with a double and had two RBIs. Jayme Sukowaty earned the victory by throwing six innnings and giving up three earned runs, while teammate Bryan Fuss received his first save of the season in one inning of hitless work.

In the second game, MATC scored eight runs in the first inning and added three runs in the next two to win 11-0 in five innings.  Dan Putnam went 3-for-3 at the plate, while teammates Joe Nartowicz, Taylor Schwarz and Drew Tometczak each went 2-for-3 and drove in two RBIs. Cody Winiarski threw a complete game shutout and only gave up three hits in the game.


MATC Wins Their Sixth Straight Doubleheader
Posted 5-2-08 - The WolfPack Baseball team continued their streak of doubleheader sweeps as they defeated Highland Community College 11-1 in six innings and 16-0 in five innings at Robin Roberts Field in Madison, WI. MATC has now won fourteen straight games.

In the first game, the WolfPack scored early and often until the ten run rule ended the game in the sixth inning.  Jeremy Richter lead the WolfPack at the plate going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while first year players, Jim Lundstrom and John Murphy each had a double in the game. Bob Stone threw a complete game, allowing one earned run on his way to his first victory of the season.

In the second game, MATC scored twelve runs in the first two innings and never looked back going on to win 16-0 in five innings.  Jeremy Richter was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple while driving in five RBIs.  Adam Vesling received his first win of the season, throwing four innings and allowing just two hits.


WolfPack Win Big in Conference Tournament
Posted 5-1-08 - MATC Baseball continued their late season winning streak by winning their eleventh and twelve straight games at the Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) Tournament held at Robin Roberts Field in Madison, WI on Thursday. MATC won 10-0 over Western Technical College and 18-3 over Milwaukee Area Technical College, both in five innings, to clinch the WTCC Tournament title for the second straight year.

In the first game, against Western Technical College, MATC had a 2-0 lead before scoring four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to end the game with a ten run rule. Second year players, Dan Putnam and Jeremy Richter each hit a home run, while going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and 2-for-2 with an RBI, respectively. Ryan Povlick threw a complete game shutout, improving his record to 5-0 on the season.

In the second game, against Milwaukee Area Technical College, the WolfPack scored in every inning, with nine runs coming in the third inning. Once again the their game ended in the fifth inning due to the ten run rule. Dan Putnam went 3-for-4 driving in a team high five RBIs, while teammates, Evan Kohli and Joe Nartowicz each had a triple in the game.  First year pitcher, Kyle Spurley received his first win of the season by throwing four innings and giving up only two earned runs.


MATC Continues to Roll, Sweeps Illinois Valley
Posted 4-30-08 - MATC Baseball continued to roll, winning their ninth and tenth straight games and posting their fifth straight doubleheader sweep. MATC won 6-5 in nine innings and 7-4 in seven innings over Illinois Valley Community College at Robin Roberts Field in Madison, WI.

In the first game, with the game tied, 4-4, after seven innings, both teams scored one run in the eighth. After Illinois Valley did not score in the top half of the ninth, MATC got a two-out RBI single from second year player, Jeremy Richter to win 6-5. First year righthander, Brian Fuss received the win by pitching three innings and giving up just one earned run.

In the second game, MATC scored seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back as they won 7-4 in seven innings. Firstbaseman David Lojeski was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and reliever Bryant Rude pitched five innings with no earned runs given up to earn his third win of the season.


MATC Sweeps Fourth Straight Doubleheader
Posted 4-27-08 - MATC played their fifth home doubleheader of the season against Sauk Valley Community College on Sunday, April 27. The WolfPack swept the visiting NJCAA Division II Skyhawks to record their seventh and eighth straight wins.

In the first game, thirdbaseman, David Lojeski, singled in the only run of the game in the sixth inning and teammate, Jayme Sukowaty, pitched a complete game four hit shutout. Sukowaty struck out three and walked just one to get his second win of the season. The WolfPack won 1-0.

In the second game, MATC scored five runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth and that was all they needed as they won 9-4. Righthander Kyle Barry earned his fourth win of the season by pitching five innings, striking out five and giving up just four hits. Matt Kabele and Mark Strey each went 2-for-3 and combined for three RBIs while teammate Evan Kohli also accounted for three RBIs himself. MATC improved to 26-14 overall as they ride an eight-game win streak.


MATC Takes Two from #1 Ranked Joliet JC
Posted 4-26-08 - On Saturday, April 26, MATC traveled to Joliet, IL to face the #1 nationally ranked NJCAA Division III Joliet Junior College Wolves. The WolfPack swept the doubleheader as they won 4-0 and 10-6.

In the first game, starting lefthander, Evan Kohli pitched a complete game six hit shutout to propel the WolfPack to a 4-0 win. The win improved Kohli's pitching record to 5-2. Joe Nartowicz was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, MATC scored a total of eight runs in the second and third innings and never looked back. Firstbaseman, Joe Nartowicz, continued his hot hitting as he went 3-for-4 and four teammates had two RBIs a piece as the WolfPack posted twelve hits. Cody Winiarski pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing five earned runs to get his third win of the season.


WolfPack Get Four WTCC Wins in Three Days
Posted 4-22-08 - The WolfPack Baseball team won four games in just three days over conference opponent, Milwaukee Area Technical College running their record in the Wisconsin Technical College Conference to 8-0.

In the first game of Wednesday night's doubleheader the WolfPack needed ten innings to finish off the visiting Stormers at home. Steve Nelson's one out single to right field scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. Nelson finished the game going 2-for-3 with one game winning RBI. Ryan Povlick received his fourth win of the season by pitching two innings and only giving up just one hit. The WolfPack won 3-2.

In the second game. WolfPack bats came alive and posted fourteen hits and twelve runs to end the game in the fifth inning 12-2. Jeremy Richter went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Luke Marwitz was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Bryant Rude improved to 2-1 by pitching five innings and striking out five.


WolfPack Takes Two from MATC-Milwaukee
Posted 4-21-08 - WolfPack Baseball won two games against conference opponent, Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, WI on Monday night.

In the first game, the WolfPack used a seven run seventh inning and solid pitching from second year lefthander, Evan Kohli to get the 10-5 win. Kohli pitched six innings, striking out five and giving up just two runs. Teammates Jim Lundstrom and David Lojeski each went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the WolfPack to the win.

In the second game, former Reedsville H.S. standout, Jayme Sukowaty pitched a complete game to earn his first win over the season. Sukowaty scattered five hits and struck out five as his teammates posted eleven hists and scored seven runs. Shortstop Matt Kabele was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the WolfPack improved to 20-14 overall and 6-0 in conference play.


MATC Loses Two Against Kankakee CC
Posted 4-20-08 - WolfPack Baseball lost both games of the home doubleheader against Kankakee Community College on Sunday, April 20.

In the first game, MATC fell 6-2 to the visiting Kankakee Cavaliers as they could not put runs on the board. Cody Winiarski received the loss despite giving up just one earned run over six innings of work. Evan Kohli and Jeremy Richter each went 2-for-3.

In the second game, MATC again struggled to put runs on the scoreboard and fell 3-1 after leading 1-0 going into the top of the seventh inning. Kyle Barry received the loss despite striking out eight over six and two-thirds. Dan Putnam was 2-for-3 and Taylor Schwarz was 1-for-1. MATC's overall record fell to 18-14.


MATC Claims Two Conference Wins at Home
Posted 4-19-08 - MATC Baseball won two games against conference foe, Western Technical College to push their record to 18-12 overall.

In the first game, MATC bats accounted for eleven hits as they cruised to a 9-2 victory behind a complete game from starting pitcher Brian Fuss. The first year righthander from West Depere H.S. only gave up one earned run by striking out three. Dan Putnam was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Taylor Schwarz was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In the second game, the WolfPack used three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand the visiting Cavaliers a 8-7 loss. Matt Kabele, Dan Putnam and Mark Strey all had key RBIs in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Povlick received the win as he blanked the visiting Cavaliers over the final three and a third.


MATC Splits with Oakton in Des Plaines, IL
Posted 4-18-08 - MATC Baseball split Friday's doubleheader in Des Plaines, IL.

In the first game, MATC led 8-4 in the fifth inning before giving up back to back five run innings to lose 14-10 in seven innings. Bob Stone received the loss pitching two-thirds of an inning and giving up three earned runs. Evan Kohli and Joe Nartowicz each went 3-for-4.

In the second game, MATC second year righthander Lucas Annen received the win as he pitched a complete game only giving up one earned run and striking out five. Drew Tometczak was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a home run.


MATC Splits Doubleheader with Triton College
Posted 4-17-08 - MATC Baseball split a home doubleheader with Triton College on Wednesday at Robin Roberts Baseball Field.

In the first game, MATC received three runs on one hit in the bottom of the third inning to hold on for the 3-0 victory. MATC pitchers Evan Kohli and Cody Winiarski combined for a three hit shutout. Kohli earned his third win of the season by pitching five and two-thirds, striking out five batters and giving up no earned runs. Winiarski received his first collegiate save. Catcher Nick Hoffman was 2-for-2 on the day.

In the second game, the WolfPack trailed 5-4 over the final two innings but could not get a run, eventually losing by the same score. Starting righthander Jayme Sukowaty received his second loss of the season, pitching five innings and giving up four earned runs. Joe Nartowicz was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.


Morton College Cancels Game with MATC
Posted 4-8-08 - The Thursday, April 17th MATC Baseball game game versus Morton College has been cancelled.


MATC Routs University of Wisconsin Club
Posted 4-15-08 - In the MATC home opener, the host WolfPack routed the University of Wisconsin Club team 18-5 in nine innings.

A seven run second inning and a four run third inning broke the game open as the WolfPack posted fifteen hits on the game. Former McFarland standout, Joe Nartowicz was 3-for-4 with four RBIs while teammate Jim Lundstrom also went 3-for-4. Bryant Rude recorded his first win of the season by pitching six innings, striking out four and giving up three earned runs. With the win, MATC improves to 14-10 overall.


WolfPack Win Doubleheader Against Western
Posted 4-9-08 -MATC took both games in a doubleheader against conference foe, Western Technical College, in LaCrosse, WI on Wednesday.

In the first game, MATC scored runs in the first four innings, recording thirteen hits and going on to win 8-1.  Cody Winiarski, coming off a perfect game in his last outing, threw another complete game, picking up the win. Winiarski gave up just one earned run and struck out five in seven innings.  Secondbasemen Jim Lundstrom went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while teammate, Jeremy Richter, went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

In the second game, MATC once again led throughout and former West DePere standout, Bryan Fuss earned his first collegiate win by throwing 4.2 innings and giving up two earned runs.  David Lojeski was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

MATC Splits Doubleheader Against Black Hawk
Posted 4-6-08 - MATC split their doubleheader with Black Hawk College on April 6 in Moline, IL.

In the first game, MATC broke open a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth inning by scoring seven runs on four hits. The WolfPack went on to win 10-3. Jeremy Richter went 1-for-2 and Taylor Schwarz went 3-for-4 as each had two RBIs. Lucas Annen received the win by pitching six innings and only giving up two earned runs.

In the second game, MATC led going into the bottom of the seventh but Black Hawk tied the game to send it into extra innings. In the eighth, Black Hawk scored another run to win the game 8-7. Kyle Barry received the loss. Jeremy Richter was 2-for-4 with an RBI.


MATC Splits Doubleheader with Elgin CC
Posted 4-5-08 - MATC split their doubleheader with Elgin Community College on April 4 in Elgin, IL.

In the first game, Evan Kohli was the only WolfPack player with a hit as he went 2-for-3. Despite his hitting efforts, he received the loss as he pitched four and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs, MATC fell 5-0.

In the second game, MATC bats came alive as they accounted for thirteen hits and thirteen runs over five innings. Five WolfPack players had two hits, as Mark Strey went 2-for-3 driving in four runs. MATC improved to 10-9 overall with a 13-2 win.


Cody Winiarski Pitches Perfect Game for MATC
Posted 4-4-08 - First year MATC righthander, Cody Winiarski, from Union Grove H.S., was flawless Thursday night as he pitched a perfect game. It was the first perfect game thrown by an MATC pitcher since Rick Cavaiani did it back on May 3, 2004.

On Thursday night in Freeport, IL, versus NJCAA Division II Highland Community College, Winiarski struck out eight batters, facing the minimum number of batters over his seven innings of work.

The only run of the game was scored in the top of the seventh on a one out single by MATC's Dan Putnam. The run proved to be enough as MATC won 1-0 to improve their record to 9-8 overall. Matt Kabele was 3-for-4 on the day.


MATC Gets Back to .500 with Kirkwood Win
Posted 4-3-08 - The MATC Baseball team got back to .500 (8-8) with a 6-4 win over Kirkwood Community College at Petrakis Park in Dubuque, IA on Wednesday.

With MATC leading 4-3 in the ninth inning, MATC scored two runs and Evan Kohli received the save, by holding Kirkwood to just one run, sealing the 6-4 win. Second year righthander, Kyle Barry, threw six innings, striking out five to record his third win of the season. Evan Kohli was also 3-for-4 with an RBI while teammate Jeremy Richter was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.


MATC Loses a Pair of Games in Illinois
Posted 3-30-08 - The #12 ranked WolfPack Baseball team lost two games in Sugar Grove, IL playing the same teams as a day earlier.

In the first game, MATC played Rochester. After each team scored two runs in the first, the WolfPack got back on the board in the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Jim Lundstrom. In the bottom of the sixth, Rochester scored two runs and held MATC in the top of the seventh to win 4-3. Jayme Sukowaty received the loss in five and one third innings of work. Steve Nelson was 2-for-3 and Dan Putnam was 2-for-4.

In the second game, the WolfPack fell 5-1 to host Waubonsee CC as the game was called due to weather in the sixth inning. Bob Stone received the loss, pitching five innings, striking out three and giving up five earned runs. John Murphy was 1-for-2 with one RBI.


MATC Wins Two Games in Sugar Grove, IL
Posted 3-29-08 - The #12 ranked WolfPack Baseball team got back over .500 with a pair of wins in Sugar Grove, IL.

In the first game versus Waubonsee CC, MATC needed thirteen innings to get the 13-10 win. Tied 7-7 at the end of nine innings the WolfPack scored one run in the tenth but the Chiefs answered. MATC then scored two runs in the twelfth but again Waubonsee answered with two runs of their own. Finally in the thirteenth inning MATC scored three runs and Ryan Povlick shut down the host Chiefs to get his second win of the season. Evan Kohli went 4-for-8 with five RBIs.

In the second game, MATC faced Rochester Community & Technical College. The WolfPack scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings to go with one run in the second to win 11-0 in five innings. Evan Kohli, David Lojeski, Matt Kabele and John Murphy all went 2-for-3 while John Murphy and Mark Strey each had three RBIs. Dan Putnam had three steals in the game and Cody Griebling pitched a five inning shutout to earn his first win of the season.


MATC Sweeps Illinois Valley CC in Oglesby, IL
Posted 3-26-08 - The #12 ranked WolfPack Baseball team earned their first series sweep of the season as they won two games versus Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, IL.

In the first game, MATC used a five-run third inning capped by a two RBI single by Jim Lundstrom to win 5-4. Lundstrom was 1-for-3 on the game while teammate Dan Putnam was 1-for-2 with two walks. Evan Kohli pitched four and a third innings giving up only one earned run and striking out six batters to earn his second win of the season. Lucas Annen recorded his first save of the year pitching two and two-thirds scoreless innings.

In the second game, the WolfPack bats came alive as MATC posted twelve hits and scored thirteen runs in the 13-2 rout which also saw a great pithcing from second year righthander, Kyle Barry. Barry earned his second win of the season by pitching six innings, striking out ten batters and giving up just one earned run. Centerfielder Dan Putnam drove in three runs while Jim Lundstrom and Nick Hoffman each drove in two. David Lojeski was 2-for-3 while Evan Kohli and Jim Lundstrom were both 2-for-4 as MATC improved to 5-6.


MATC Falls to Pima CC in Final Arizona Game
Posted 3-21-08 - The #12 ranked MATC Baseball team lost 12-7 to Pima Community College at Aztec Baseball Field in Tucson, AZ. After trailing 10-1 in the seventh, MATC rallied with six runs in the top of the seventh. That was the the closest they got as Pima added another two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

First year righthander, Cody Griebling, received the loss as he gave up seven earned runs over five innings of work. Dan Putnam and John Murphy each went 2-for-5, while Putnam drove in one and Murphy drove in two. Second year outfielder, Steve Nelson went 2-for-3.


MATC Gives Up 10-2 Lead, Loses to Gateway
Posted 3-20-08 - The #12 ranked MATC WolfPack led 10-2 going into the bottom of the fifth but the Gateway Community College Geckos scored thirteen runs over the next three innings to put the game away at Gene Autry Park in Mesa, AZ.

The WolfPack gave up nineteen hits and fifteen runs losing 15-11 in nine innings. First year lefthander Bob Stone received the loss in relief, giving up five runs over two and third.

Three MATC hitters including Matt Kabele, Jeremy Richter and Taylor Schwarz were 2-for-5 while second baseman Jim Lundstrom was 2-for-4 with one RBI.


Kyle Barry Leads WolfPack to Win Over Elgin
Posted 3-20-08 - The #12 ranked MATC WolfPack led by second year righthander, Kyle Bearry, beat Elgin Community College 9-1 in seven innings at Gene Autry Park in Phoenix, AZ.

Barry pitched a complete game, striking out nine on his way to his first win of the young season. MATC scored in every inning except for the fourth as Evan Kohli went 3-for-3 and Taylor Schwarz went 3-for-4. Matt Kabele was also 1-for-2 with four RBIs including a two-run triple in the sixth inning. MATC moves to 3-4 overall.


MATC Falls to Scottsdale CC, 10-5
Posted 3-20-08 - The #12 nationally ranked MATC Baseball team lost 10-5 to NJCAA Division II Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, AZ on Wednedsday (March 9).

The WolfPack gave up one run in the first, three runs in the fourth and six runs in the seveth to fall behind 10-1 going into the top of the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, MATC cut the lead to five as they scored four runs, two of which came on a Steve Nelson two RBI single. Unfortunately, the WolfPack never got any closer and fell 10-5 to move their record to 2-4.

Steve Nelson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while teammate Jeremy Richter was 2-for-5 with one RBI. Evan Kohli received the loss as he pitched five and two-thirds, giving up four earned runs.


WolfPack Bats Come Alive in 12-1 Win
Posted 3-18-08 - The #12 nationally ranked WolfPack Baseball team won 12-1 against Western New England College in Chandler, AZ. This game was originally scheduled as a varsity reserve game but was changed to a regular game due to late season cancellations.

The WolfPack bats came alive in the fourth inning as the team scored ten runs on seven hits to break the game open. With no outs, Steve Nelson started the scoring with a triple and two RBIs. Nelson finished with three RBIs as did teammate Drew Tometczak, who was also 1-for-3. Mark Strey was 2-for-2 while Joe Nartowicz and David Lojeski were each 2-for-4.

Ryan Povlick pitched four innings and did not give up any earn runs on his way to his first win of the season. MATC improved to 2-3.


WolfPack Manage Only One Hit, Lose to Mesa
Posted 3-17-08 - The #12 nationally ranked MATC Baseball team fell behind 6-0 after the first inning and could only manage one hit over the next seven innings, falling 10-0, to Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ.

Evan Kohli managed the WolfPack's only hit, breaking up a no-hitter in the seventh inning. While Bryant Rude received the loss, Lucas Annen pitched five and two-thirds, striking out seven batters and only giving up one earned run. MATC fell to 1-3 on the season.


MATC Falls to #5 Ranked Iowa Western
Posted 3-16-08 - The #12 nationally ranked NJCAA Division II MATC Baseball team played the #5 nationally ranked Division I Iowa Western Community College at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ. MATC jumped to an early 5-1 lead in the fourth inning after first year outfielder, Mark Strey hit a three-run homerun in the top of the fourth. Iowa Western answered with three runs of their own in the bottom part of the inning.

Over the next four innings, MATC could not get a run and struggled defensively while Iowa Western posted three runs to give themselves a 7-5 win.

Mark Strey, David Lojeski and Daniel Putnam all went 2-for-4. Strey had a game high three RBIs on his three-run homerun. MATC's Kyle Barry received the loss despite only giving up one earn run in three innings of work. The WolfPack fell to 1-2 on the young season.


MATC Struggles Against Phoenix College
Posted 3-14-08 - After a great opening win against the #17 ranked Glendale Community College Gauchos, MATC struggled in the second game to produce hits and had five errors as they fell 11-1 to Phoenix College in Phoenix, AZ.

Jeremy Richter, Evan Kohli and Taylor Schwarz each had one hit while Cody Winiarski pitched five innings, striking out five and giving up three earned runs. Winiarski received the loss and MATC fell to 1-1.


MATC Wins Season Opener With Big Bats
Posted 3-14-08 - The #12 nationally ranked MATC Baseball team started the season with an impressive 12-2 win over the #17 ranked Glendale Community College Gauchos.

MATC posted twelve hits and did not commit an error in their season opener in Glendale, AZ. First year infielder, John Murphy was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two homeruns in his MATC debut. Second year teammates, Jeremy Richter and Dan Putnam, each went 2-for-4 with three RBIs with Richter hitting the other MATC homerun.

Second year athlete, Evan Kohli pitched six innings, striking out two and only giving up one earned run on his way to his first season win.
