MATC Basketball Signs Guard Cedric Collins
Posted 7-30-08 - The Madison Area Technical College Men's Basketball team has signed, Cedric Collins, a 6-2 guard from Lawton H.S., in Lawton, OK, to a National Letter of Intent for the 2008-09 school year.

In addition to averaging 12.4 ppg and 8.1 rpg last season, Collins received all-conference and Southwest Classic All-Star honors.

Patrick Macki Signs with Iowa Wesleyan
Posted 6-20-08 - MATC Basketball's second year point guard, Patrick Macki, signed a Letter of Intent to play basketball at Iowa Wesleyan (NAIA Division II).  

The Tigers were looking for a point guard that can control tempo, make good decisions with the ball and defend.  According to Coach Vesterdahl, "This is a perfect fit for Patrick and his skill set.  His work ethic, both on the floor and in the classroom, will be a welcome addition to their program.


Jason King Signs with NCAA Division II Adams State
Posted 4-29-08 - Second year forward/center, Jason King, signed a national letter of intent to play for the Adams State College Grizzlies next season.

King, the Minneapolis native, averaged 16.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg this past season while earning first team all-conference, all-state and all-region honors. In addition, he earned academic all-conference honors this past season. King finished his career at MATC as fourth all-time in career blocks.


Chris Davis Named NJCAA Division III All-American
Posted 4-11-08 - First year forward, Chris Davis, made the 2007-08 NJCAA Division III Men’s Basketball All-American honorable mention team, becoming just the fifth men’s basketball player in school history to receive All-American honors.

Chris Davis led the WolfPack to conference and state titles this season by leading the team in games started with 30 out of 32 games, points per game (21.5 ppg), rebounds per game (8.9 rpg), field goal percentage (56.2%), steals (49), block shots (23) and double-doubles (11).  He was second on the team in assists (72) and received first team all-conference, all-state and all-region honors this season.


MATC Men Fall to Central Lakes in Region XIII
Posted 3-3-08 - The MATC Men's Basketball team lost, 64-67, to Central Lakes College on Friday, February 29 in the Semifinal of the Region XIII Tournament in Brainerd, MN. The game was tight throughout as their were 13 ties and 14 lead changes.

Chris Davis led three WolfPack players in double-figures pouring in 18 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Former Poynette H.S. athletes, Ryan Schernecker and David Nelson pitched in with 13 points and 12 points, respectively. The WolfPack Men finished the season as the WTCC conference and WJCAA state champion with an overall record of 25-7.


MATC Plays Central Lakes College in Region
Posted 2-26-08 - The MATC Men's Basketball team will play Central Lakes College in the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament on Friday, February 29th in Brainerd, MN at 8:00 PM. The winner of game will face either Vermillion CC or Minneapolis CC on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00 PM for the right to advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in Delhi, NY.


MATC Claims State Title Over UW-Waukesha
Posted 2-24-08 - In the WJCAA State Tournament Final, the MATC Men's Basketball team won their seventh straight game and claimed their second state title in the last three seasons.

Trailing 41-39 at halftime, the WolfPack stormed back in the second half and took control of the game down the stretch. MATC held the visiting Cougars to under 19% shooting from the field in the second half. The WolfPack upended last year's state champion, UW-Waukesha, 71-63.

Former Madison East H.S. athlete, Chris Davis, led four MATC players in double-figures with his eleventh double-double of the season. Davis scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Andy Nelson also added 14 points while David Nelson and Roy Zellmer pitched in with 11 points each.

Chris Davis and Roy Zellmer were named to the 2008 WJCAA All-Tournament team.


MATC Moves on to State Final With 63-56 Win
Posted 2-23-08 - In the WJCAA State Tournament Men's Semifinal, the MATC Men's Basketball team claimed a hard fought 63-56 win over the visiting UW-Marathon Huskies.

MATC's sixth straight victory did not come easy as MATC got off to a 29-23 halftime lead despite only shooting 29% from the field. Chris Davis had 22 out of the WolfPack's 29 first half points.

In the second half, the Huskies cut into the WolfPack lead and traded leads while Chris Davis was on the bench with foul trouble. Roy Zellmer made some key baskets to give MATC the lead down the stretch as he finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. In the end, MATC pulled out the 63-56 win to advance to the WJCAA State Championship Game. Chris Davis led all scorers with 24 points.

The WolfPack Men will play for the state title at 2:00 PM tomorrow (Sunday, February 24) versus UW-Waukesha at the WJCAA State Tournament at MATC.


WolfPack Advance to State, Beat UW-Richland
Posted 2-20-08 - In the second round of the WJCAA State Playoffs, the MATC Men's Basketball team outscored the visiting UW-Richland Roadrunners 103-70 to advance to the WJCAA State Tournament.

MATC scored over 100 points for the second straight postseason game as Chris Davis poured in 25 points in less than 20 minutes of play. Jason King and David Nelson pitched in with 18 and 10 points, respectively. The WolfPack play UW-Marathon in the WJCAA State Tournament on Saturday, February 23 at 6:00 PM at MATC.


MATC Bounces Western Tech by 41 Points
Posted 2-18-08 - In the first round of the WJCAA State Playoffs, the MATC Men's Basketbal team routed the visiting Western Techical College Cavaliers for the fourth time this season by the score of 101-60. The win advances the WolfPack to the second round of the WJCAA State Playoffs to host UW-Richland on Wednesday, February 20 at 7:30 PM.

Chris Davis led the way for the WolfPack with 22 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field, including 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Chris joined four other teammates in double-figures including Mark Smallwood with 19 points and David Nelson, Andy Nelson and Ryan Schernecker with 10 points each. David Nelson also pulled down 11 rebounds for his first double-double of his collegiate career.


Macki Hits Three for Overtime, MATC Wins OT
Posted 2-13-08 - After trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half. A run to end the first half keyed by the efforts Mike Taylor, Sam Wilkinson, David Nelson, Roy Zellmer, and others off the bench pulled the game to within seven points at halftime.

In the second half of the NJCAA WI Regional Final the host WolfPack stormed back and with under ten seconds to go in regulation, seocnd year player, Patrick Macki hit an offbalance three-pointer to knot the game at 79-79. The shot ended up forcing overtime and in overtime, MATC took over, as they outscored the visiting Cougars 14-9. The win advances MATC to the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in Minnesota on February 29-March 1.

Chris Davis once again led the way for the WolfPack with his tenth double-double of the season (29 points, 13 rebounds) while teammates Jason King and Andy Nelson pitched in with 16 and 15 points, respectively. The efforts of starter Sam Wilkinson, David Nelson, Mike Taylor and others off the bench keyed a end of the first half comeback.


MATC Advances to NJCAA WI Regional Final
Posted 2-11-08 - The WolfPack Men's Basketball team demolished the visiting Western Technical College Cavaliers, 90-37, in the NJCAA Wisconsin Regional Semifinal.

Chris Davis led three MATC players in double-figures. Ryan Schernecker was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and had 14 points while teammate Jason King scored 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field.

With the victory, MATC advances to face the winner of MATC-Milwaukee and Mid-State Technical College in the NJCAA Wisconsin Regional Final. The game will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30 at MATC.


MATC Claims First WTCC Title Since 2005
Posted 2-7-08 - The MATC Men's Basketball team, in a game rescheduled from Wednesday night, rallied past conference rival, Mid-State Technical College in the second half to record a 77-66 win at home.

After starting slow and trailing by four points at halftime, the WolfPack rallied, shooting 6-for-11 from beyond the arc. They outscored the visiting Cougars 50-35 down the stretch to claim the program's first conference title since the 2004-05 season.

MATC was led by Chris Davis' game high 29 points and 11 rebounds. His teammate, Jason King also contributed with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Former Poynette athlete, Andy Nelson added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the WolfPack win.

Next up for the MATC Men is a NJCAA WI Regional Playoff matchup against Western Technical College on Monday, February 11 at 7:00 PM at home.


MATC Men Lose First Conference Game
Posted 2-4-08 - On Saturday, February 2, the WolfPack Men traveled to Milwaukee to face conference rival, Milwaukee Area Technical College.

The WolfPack struggled shooting in the first half, trailing the Stormers 42-27 at halftime. In the second half, MATC-Madison closed the gap and had a chance to tie at the end of regulation that came up short. With the 65-63 loss the WolfPack fell to 6-1 in conference play.

Chris Davis led the WolfPack with 17 points while Jason King and Andy Nelson each pitched in with 10 points.


WolfPack Win Push Conference Mark to 6-0
Posted 1-26-08 - The WolfPack Men's Basketball team pulled away from the visiting Fox Valley Technical College Cyclones by outscoring them 49-34 in second half. In the end, MATC improved to 6-0 in Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) with a 92-70 win.

Four MATC players reached double-figures led by Chris Davis' 19 point effort. Jason King posted his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Wilkinson and Roy Zellmer added 18 and 10 points, respectively.


MATC Men Roll to 113-65 Win in La Crosse
Posted 1-24-08 - The MATC Men's Basketball team improved to 5-0 in Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) play with their sixth consecutive victory. The WolfPack Men rolled to a 113-65 win over Western Technical College in La Crosse, WI.

Five WolfPack players reached double-figures including, Chris Davis (21 pts.), Jason King (20 pts.), Justin Annen (14 pts.), Roy Zellmer (11 pts.), and Sam Wilkinson (10 pts.) as MATC improved to 9-0 against state junior colleges.


MATC Wins Fourth Straight Conference Game
Posted 1-22-08 - The WolfPack Men's Basketball team improved to 4-0 in Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) play with their fifth consecutive victory.

MATC used a 48 point second half effort, overcoming a two point halftime deficit, to claim the 85-69 win against conference opponent, Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids.

MATC received double-doubles from both Chris Davis and Jason King as they combined to score 36 points and pull down 24 rebounds. Roy Zellmer and Patrick Macki pitched in with 18 and 10 points respectively as the WolfPack Men improved to 16-5 overall.


Jason Jensen - MATC's First NCAA D. I Signee
Posted 1-16-08 - MATC guard, Jason Jensen, just recently signed with NCAA Division I University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA). UTPA is located in the Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas.

Jensen, the first MATC Men's Basketball Division I Signee in school history, led MATC in scoring and assists last season with 22.4 ppg 2.4 spg and 2.7 apg. The former St. Francis H.S. standout earned all-conference, all-state and all-region honors.

Jensen will be attending UTPA in the fall of 2008. Unfortunately an injury in the fourth game this season has made Jason forgo his second year at MATC by taking a medical redshirt.


WolfPack Men Beat Other MATC, 3-0 in WTCC
Posted 1-16-08 - The MATC Men's Basketball team improved to 3-0 in Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) play with a 106-91 win over conference foe, Milwaukee Area Technical College.

In a hard fought game, the WolfPack led 50-35 at halftime and maintained that lead on some hot shooting in the second half. The WolfPack shot over 53% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc for the game.

Jason King led the WolfPack with 25 points and 9 rebounds while Chris Davis pitched in with his seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards. Sam Wilkinson and Andy Nelson also reached double-figures with 14 and 13, respectively.


MATC 2-0 in WTCC with Win over Fox Valley
Posted 1-10-08 - The MATC Men's Basketball team improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 96-59 win over Fox Valley Technical College in Menasha, WI.

MATC crusied to the win after taking a 57-28 lead into halftime. Chris Davis led the way for the WolfPack with his sixth double-double of the season as he poured in a game-high 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Teammate Jason King added 27 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.


WolfPack Men Rout Western Technical College
Posted 1-5-08 - In the Wisconsin Technical College Conference (WTCC) opener, MATC routed the visiting Western Technical College Cavaliers 109-54.

Five WolfPack players scored in double-figures and three players had double-digit rebounds as MATC scored over 50 in each half and only turned the ball over nine times in the win.

Former Madison East standout, Chris Davis posted his sixth double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds while teammate, Mark Smallwood, from DeForest H.S., recorded his first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. MATC improved to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.


King, Davis Double-Up for the WolfPack Win
Posted 12-30-07 - In the final game of the Scottsdale CC Tournament in Scottsdale, AZ, on Saturday, December 29, Jason King and Chris Davis each recorded a double-double in a 83-70 win over Centralia College from Centralia, WA.

Jason King poured in 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while teammate Chris Davis scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. MATC jumped out to a 28-26 halftime advantage and didn't let up to post their first tournament win against stiff competition. Patrick Macki was just one rebound shy of his first double-double as well as he contributed 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. MATC improved to 12-5.


MATC Loses to Divison I Monroe College
Posted 12-29-07 - On Friday, December 28, in the second game of the Scottsdale CC Tournament in Scottsdale, AZ, MATC fell 94-80 to NJCAA Division I Monroe College.

After trailing 48-35 at half, MATC could not get back into the game despite a 21 point, 16 rebound effort from second year forward, Jason King. Former Maidson East standout, Chris Davis led MATC with 27 points while Baraboo H.S. product, Roy Zellmer, pitched in with 13 points. MATC fell to 11-5.


WolfPack Fall in Final Minute to Eastern Utah
Posted 12-28-07 - In the first game of the Scottsdale Community College Tournament in Scottsdale, AZ, on Thursday, December 27, the WolfPack faced NJCAA Division I College of Eastern Utah from Price, UT.

After trailing by just six points at halftime the game was within four points with three minutes left. Unfortunatley, the Eagles pulled away behind hot shooting as they downed the WolfPack 74-62. Jason King, Chris Davis and Roy Zellmer each scored in double-figures with 20, 19, and 10 points, respectively.


Cold Shooting Dooms the WolfPack
Posted 12-15-07 - After scoring 141 points and shooting almost 60% on Wednesday, the #8 ranked MATC Men's Basketball team struggled shooting and scoring on Saturday night. As a team, MATC shot just 16-for-66 (24%) from the field to score a season-low 43 points. After scoring 17 points in the first half, MATC responded in the second half as they held the Wolves to 24 points.

MATC fell 60-43 to lose their third game of the season and their second to Joliet. Three MATC players had eigth points including Chris Davis, Ryan Schernecker and Andy Nelson.


MATC Men Play Game For the Record Books
Posted 12-12-07 - The #8 NJCAA Division III nationally ranked MATC Men's Basketball team played a game for the record books on Wednesday night at home versus UW-Rock County.

After a 58-35 halftime score, MATC scored 83 points in the second half to win 141-69. The second half score and the final score are school records. As is the number of assists in the game... fourty. Five players were in double-figures including Jason King and Chris Davis who each had eight rebounds to go with 28 and 26, repectively. Chris Davis also had six assists as did Mike Taylor. Sam Wilkinson added 17, Smallwood 14 and Andy Nelson 12 to round out the double-digit scoring.

With the win MATC improves to 11-2 with a 4-0 mark against state competition.


WolfPack Win Second Game of Tournament
Posted 12-8-07 - The #3 nationally ranked MATC Men's Basketball team got back on track with a 78-64 win over College of St. Scholastica JV.

MATC busted the game open in the second half as Jason King had his second straight double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Four other MATC players including Dlemarius Steele, Chris Davis, Andy Nelson and Ryan Schernecker wer also in double-figures with 13, 11, 11, and 10 respectively. Mark Smallwood also recorded eight assists.


MATC Men Fall to Gogebic in Tournament
Posted 12-7-07 - The #3 nationally ranked MATC WolfPack Men's Basketball team lost their second game of the season after leading at halftime 29-26 in the first game of the McDonald's Tournament in Ironwood, MI. In the second half, Gogebic Community College outscored the WolfPack 45-35 to take the victory 71-64. MATC was hurt by 17 turnovers in the game.

Jason King recorded his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Delmarius Steele pitched in with 13 points while teammate Chris Davis had 8 points and sixteen rebounds. MATC fell to 9-2.


MATC Men Push Winning Streak to Six Games
Posted 12-5-07 - The #3 nationally ranked MATC WolfPack Men's Basketball team pushed their winning streak to six games with a 73-55 win over UW-Richland.

On a night when the WolfPack struggled shooting they found a way to win. MATC was led by former Madison East standout, Chris Davis' 22 point and 18 rebound effort. The double-double was Davis' fourth of the season. Roy Zellmer pitched in with 10 points and Jason King added nine points in the victory.


WolfPack Men Beat UW-Marathon in Wausau
Posted 12-1-07 - The #5 nationally ranked MATC WolfPack Men's Basketball team traveled to Wausau, WI to win its fifth straight game. MATC beat UW-Marathon 74-65. MATC led by eight points at half and held off the Huskies in the second half as four MATC players were in double-figures for the game.

Chris Davis and Delmarious Steele each had 14 points while Sam Wilkinson and Ryan Schernecker each pitched in with 13 and 10 points, respectively.


MATC Cruises to Fourth Straight Win
Posted 11-27-07 - The #5 nationally ranked MATC WolfPack Men's Basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 88-53 thrashing of UW-Baraboo. MATC led by as much as 41 points in the second half as they improved to 7-1 overall.

Chris Davis led the WolfPack in scoring for the fourth straight game as he poured in 19 points to lead four WolfPack players in double-figures. Trevor Alfson, Sam Wilkinson and Delmarius Steele pitched in with 14, 11 and 10 points respectively.


MATC Defeats Sauk Valley Community College
Posted 11-26-07 - The #3 nationally ranked NJCAA Division III WolfPack Men's Basketball team won its third straight game with a 75-70 win over NJCAA Division I Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL on Tuesday, November 20th.

Former Madison East standout, Chris Davis led the WolfPack with 23 points, while teammate, Delmarius Steele had posted his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  With the win, the WolfPack improved to 6-1 on the season.


WolfPack Win Big Against Riverland CC
Posted 11-19-07 - The WolfPack Men's Basketball team won 71-48 over Riverland Community College in Austin, MN on Friday night to improve their overall record to 5-1.  MATC outscored their opponent 37-21 to start the game.

Chris Davis recorded his third straight double-double with a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds.  Former Baraboo H.S. athlete, Roy Zellmer added 10 points in the win.


MATC's Second Half Propels WolfPack to Win
Posted 11-15-07 - The WolfPack Men's Basketball team outscored the host Central Lakes College Raiders, 38-28, in the second half to claim a 69-58 win in Brainerd, MN. MATC shot almost 54% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc in the second half.

Former Madison East standout, Chris Davis had a game-high 26 points and added 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Former Wisconsin Dells athlete, Delmarius Steele added 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field.


MATC Men Fall in Overtime to Joliet in Championship
Posted 11-12-07 - The MATC Men's Basketball team was defeated by #14 ranked Joliet Junior College, 96-94, in overtime of the championship game of the MATC Border Battle Tournament.  Tied 87-87 at the end of regulation the WolfPack were outscored 9-7 in overtime to lose their first game of the season.

Chris Davis led the WolfPack with his first double-double of the season as he poured in 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.  Teammate Jason Jensen added 25 points and nine rebounds as the WolfPack finished runners-up in the MATC Border Battle Tournament.


WolfPack Get Border Battle Win
Posted 11-09-07 - The MATC Men's Basketball team defeated Rochester Community & Technical College, 81-71, in their opening game of the MATC Border Battle Tournament on Friday night.

Jason Jensen led the WolfPack with 19 points, while teammate, Chris Davis added 17 points in the team's third straight win to start the season

MATC will play Joliet Junior College in the Championship of the MATC Border Battle Tournament on Saturday, November 9, at 4 PM.


MATC Men Start the Season With Two Wins

Posted 11-05-07 - The MATC Men's Basketball team started the 2007-2008 season with a pair of wins at the Waubonsee Community College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

In their first game on Friday, MATC defeated host Waubonsee Community College 75-70.  Former Madison East H.S. standout, Chris Davis had a team high 25 points, while Jason Jensen added 17 points in the win.

On Saturday, the WolfPack defeated Olive-Harvey 84-69.  Chris Davis once again led all WolfPack scorers with 28 points, while Jason Jensen pitched in with 18 points along with a team high nine rebounds in the victory.

MATC will host the Border Battle Tournament on this coming Friday and Saturday.  Their first game will be against Rochester Community & Technical College on Friday, November 9, at 8:00 PM.
