2007 with Former Badger Star, Boo Gillette, As Head Coach
Posted 2-21-06 - Madison
Area Technical College Women’s Softball will make
its return as an NJCAA Division III intercollegiate sport
during the 2007 spring season with a former University
of Wisconsin standout softball player, Boo Gillette, as
their new head coach. Boo Gillette was named head MATC
Softball Coach on Monday.
After a seven-year absence as an intercollegiate sport,
MATC has resurrected the softball program. The team will
compete at the National Junior College Athletic Association
(NJCAA) Division III level during the 2007 season. Renovations
to the softball complex and recruiting efforts by Coach Gillette
will help bring the program to prominence.
“I am confident that with the wealth of talent in
the Madison and surrounding communities combined with the
support that this great community has shown me as a Badger
player and the support it continues to give its athletic
teams, we can form a high caliber team which can gain national
recognition for MATC and the state of Wisconsin,” commented
new MATC head softball coach, Boo Gillette.
Boo Gillette, has served as assistant softball coach at
Edgewood College since the fall of 2005 while also giving
hitting and pitching instructions to athletes throughout
the community. As a student-athlete at the University of
Wisconsin from 2002-2005, Boo was a natural leader and a
talented softball player. As a leader, she served as a three-year
team captain, a two-year Big-Ten representative and a two-year
UW Athletic Board representative. As a UW athlete, she received
many honors including being named three-year all Big-Ten
Conference, two-year co-MVP and winning the Big Ten Sportsmanship
award her senior season.
“We are very pleased that Boo Gillette will lead
our women’s softball program at MATC. Boo brings the
type of energy and enthusiasm needed to build a high quality
intercollegiate softball program. Everyone that has been
involved with Boo feels that she is a great teacher of the
game and an excellent communicator,” said MATC Athletic
