Volleyball Team Helps in Stoughton
Posted 8-31-05 - On
Thursday, August 25th, student-athletes from the MATC
Women’s
Volleyball team along with new head coach, Toby Parker,
took a trip to Stoughton to assist with the clean up
in the heavily damaged area of Alice Circle.
"There wasn’t any hesitation on our part to cancel practice that day
because of the opportunity we had to led a hand," said first-year MATC head
volleyball coach Toby Parker. "After learning of a couple of friends
that lost their homes in Stoughton, we went out to see if we could do anything
to help them out.”
The team was greeted by the homeowners, who were very thankful for the help.
The WolfPack Women helped clean up what was left of the home above ground and
began demolishing the basement for reconstruction.
The husband and wife that owned the home, although exhausted,
kept the girls going with smiles and words of encouragement throughout
the day. "I know the players learned about the strength and
character of the people in the area. Even though the homeowners
had lost so much they were still so upbeat and positive," said
Parker. "It was a tremendous learning experience and one that
we will all remember."
The following is a list of MATC student-athletes that helped
in the cleanup effort:
Tricia Walker - Boscobel H.S.
Jessica Seeliger - Madison East H.S.
Katie Runde - Platteville H.S.
Rena Gross - Mount Horeb H.S.
Jen Butler - Argyle H.S.
Melissa Weisensel - Pardeeville
H.S.
Kim Haack - Wisconsin Heights H.S.
