Brett Scarpetta Drafted by Braves
Posted 6-8-05 - First year MATC
righthander, Brett Scarpetta from Roscoe, IL was drafted
in the 38th round (1157 overall) of the 2005 Major League
Draft on June 8th. Scarpetta led the team with 67 strikeouts
in 70.6 innings pitched this season. He also had a 6-4 record
with a 3.69 ERA.
Craig Nyborg Receives All-American
Honor
Posted 6-7-05 - Craig Nyborg,
starting infielder for the Madison Area Technical College
Baseball team and former Fort Wayne H.S. (IN) athlete,
became the twelevth All-American in MATC Baseball history
and the second MATC Baseball player in the last two
years to receive All-American honors. Craig received third
team NJCAA
Division II All-American honors for his play this
season.
Nyborg, a transfer from Kishwaukee College, led the team in
hits (61), doubles (16), triples (6), home runs (6), and stolen
bases (25) during the 2005 season . Additionally, he hit .333
and was second on the team in slugging percentage with an imressive
.552. He is currently playing in the Northwoods League for
the Madison Mallards.

Ends World Series with Loss to Mesa
Posted 5-29-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC lost to #6 ranked Mesa Community College Thunderbirds
6-8 despite a late game rally by the WolfPack. MATC was
eliminated from the 2005 NJCAA Division II World Series
in Millington, TN with their second loss of the tournament.
MATC fell behind early as Mesa CC scored eight runs in the
first five innings, including four in the fourth inning to
lead MATC 8-0. Dan Plens pitched five innings for the WolfPack,
striking out two batters but giving up seven earned runs.
MATC finally got on the board in the six inning when pitch
hitter, Brad Frank hit an RBI single. MATC added another run
in the seventh inning before MATC bats helped get the WolfPack
back in the game in the fourth inning. MATC scored four runs
in the eighth inning on five hits and one error.
MATC pitchers, Clay Brabender, Kelby Mack and Matt Holzhueter
held the Thunderbirds in check as they scored no runs in the
final four innings.
In the ninth inning, MATC had two runners on the bases but
could not get them home to tie up the game. MATC lost 6-8 and
finished the tournament and season with an overall record of
43-21.

Loses first game of World Series
Posted 5-28-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC WolfPack lost to #14 ranked Chesapeake College Skipjacks
1-11 in six innings in their first game of the 2005 NJCAA
Division II World Series in Millington, TN.
MATC got off to an early lead as they posted one run in the
first inning on a Blaine Rutledge RBI single. Chesapeake answered
in the second inning with one run. MATC
struggled to get out of the third inning as the Skipjacks posted
five runs on three hits and one error. Starting pitcher, Brett
Scarpetta came out of the game after the third inning having
allowed six hits and three earned runs in a rough outing.
The Skipjacks added five more runs in the next three innings
off MATC righthander, Brian Dietzler and MATC batters could
not get anything going offensively. The game ended after six
innings due to the tournament's 10-run rule.
MATC will play the loser of the 12:00 game at 9:00 AM tomorrow
morning (Sunday, May 29th).

Wins, Earns Trip to World Series
Posted 5-22-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC WolfPack beat #11 ranked Iowa Central 9-5 in the third
and deciding game of the 2005 NJCAA District Title Series
at Robin Roberts Field. With the win MATC claims District
title and advances to the 2005 NJCAA Division II World
Series in Millington, TN (May 28-June 3) for the first
time since moving up to Division II in 2000 and the first
time since placing fourth in the nation in 1999.
In the third and final game, MATC came out with their bats
blazing as they posted seven runs in the first inning and never
looked back. Former Kenosha Bradford athlete, Dan Plens pitched
a solid seven innings to get his fifth win of the season. Troy
Vesling continued his hot hitting by going 2-for-4 and driving
in two runs. Tyler Schill went 2-for-3 and Joel Hoberg went
2-for-4, eaching driving in a run.
MATC will leave Thursday morning for Millington,
TN and will play their first game on Saturday, May 28 at
9:00 AM versus Chesapeake College (39-16) from Wye Mills,
Maryland.

Baseball Splits with Iowa Central
Posted 5-21-05 - MATC split two
games with Iowa Central today (May 21) to force a third
and final game on Sunday, May 22nd at NOON to determine
who advances to the 2005 NJCAA Division II World Series.
In the first game, MATC rallied from three runs behind to
tie the game 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning and send
the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Joel
Hoberg scored the winning run to give MATC the 7-6 win. Kelby
Mack improved his team best pitching record to 6-0 with the
win. Kyle Meyer, a former Appleton North standout, went 4-for-4
and drove in one run.
The second game was tied 3-3 until the eighth inning when
Iowa Central broke the game open with four runs. MATC could
not answer and lost 3-7. Chris Spangler received the loss.
Kyle Meyer continued his hot hitting by going 2-for-4 along
with teammate Troy Vesling who went 2-for-4 as well. Nick Hein
accounted for two RBIs.

MATC Baseball team will host #11 ranked Iowa Central
Community College (Fort Dodge, IA) in a best-of-three game
series in the NJCAA District Title Series on Saturday,
May 21st and, if necessary, Sunday, May 22nd. All
games will be played at Robin
Roberts Baseball Field on the MATC Truax Campus. The
first game on Saturday starts at NOON with the second game
starting at approximately 2:30. If necessary, the
third game will start at NOON on Sunday.

The winner of the District Title Series advances to the NJCAA
Division II World Series. MATC has not been to the World
Series since 1999 and last won the World Series when
they claimed three straight NJCAA Division III national
titles from 1995-1997. MATC moved up to NJCAA Division
II in 2000.
OPPONENT BACKGROUND - Iowa
Central Site
Iowa Central has consistantly been one of the best junior college baseball
programs in the country. Iowa Central has qualified for seven NJCAA Division
II World Series since 1996 including a national record four straight appearances
from 2000 to the present. MATC has lost to Iowa Central in the District
Title Series in 2000, 2001 and 2004.

Baseball Team Claims Region Title
Posted 5-15-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC Baseball team beat Miles Community College for the
second time in the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament Final to
claim the 2005 region title. The exciting 4-3 win in ten
innings earns MATC the right to host the NJCAA District
Title Series at Robin Roberts Baseball Field on Saturday,
May 21st and Sunday, May 22nd, if necessary. The winner
of the District Title Series advances to the NJCAA Division
II National Championship.

Advances to Region Final
Posted 5-14-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC Baseball team won their first two games of the Region
Tournament this weekend (May 13-15) in Bismarck, ND. MATC
beat Willinston State 7-6 in the first game and beat Miles
CC in the second game, 11-3. With two wins, MATC advances
to the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament Final against either
Williston State or Miles CC. The winner of the final game
will host the NJCAA District Title Series for the right
to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championship.

Splits Doubleheader with Elgin CC
Posted 5-11-05 - The #13 nationally
ranked MATC Baseball team split a doubleheader with the
#3 ranked Elgin Community College Spartans in MATC's last
two games of the regular season. MATC finished the regular
season with a 38-18 overall record, playing a school record
56 games.
FIRST GAME - MATC-1,

In the first game, MATC sent four
pitchers to the mound as the pitching staff
got ready for the postseason, starting Friday.
Brandon Duffy, Brian Dietzler, Chris Spangler,
and Kelby Mack combined to only allow Elgin
one run and four hits. Kelby Mack received
the win by pitching the sixth and seventh,
not allowing a hit. Tyler Schill and Blaine
Rutledge each went 2-for-3 in the win.
SECOND GAME - MATC-3,
Elgin CC-8
In the second game, MATC once again
sent several pitchers to the mound. In total,
MATC sent seven pitchers in to pitch. Clay
Brabender pitched two innings and received
the loss. Most of the damage was done in the
third inning when the Spartans scored four
runs. Craig Nyborg went 2-for-3 in the loss.

Swept by Highland CC at Home
Posted 5-9-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC Baseball team was swept in a home doubleheader on
Saturday, May 7th against Highland Community College.
FIRST GAME - MATC-3,
Highland CC-4
In the first game, MATC was leading
2-1 going into the seventh inning but Highland
scored one run in the top of the seventh put
the game into extra innings. In the eighth,
Highland posted two runs and MATC tried to
answer, but could only manage one run. Brandon
Duffy received the loss and MATC lost their
third straight game. Kyle Meyer went 1-for-1
and drove in one run in the loss.
SECOND GAME - MATC-4, Highland CC-14
In
the second game, MATC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead until
the fifth inning went Highland scored eight runs to break the
game open. Highland scored six more runs in the next two innings
to hand MATC a 4-14 loss. Dan Plens received the loss as five
other MATC pitchers saw action. Craig Nyborg had a steller
day despite the loss, batting 3-for-3 with one run batted in.

Loses Two in South Holland, IL
Posted 5-5-05 - The #13 ranked
MATC Baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader
against South Suburban College in South Holland, IL.
FIRST GAME - MATC-8, South Suburban
College-9
In the first game, MATC was tied 6-6 in the sixth
inning. In the top of the seventh MATC scored two runs to lead
8-6 going into the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, MATC
gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to lose 8-9.
Matt Holzhueter, who pitched in the seventh, received the loss.
Craig Nyborg had a great game as he hit two homeruns and went
3-for-4 with five runs batted in.
SECOND GAME - MATC-1, South Suburban
College-4
In the second game, MATC's offensive struggled as
WolfPack batters managed only four hits and one run in the
top of the seventh. Clay Brabender pitched five innings and
received the loss despite only giving up one earned run. Ron
Lindahl went 1-for-1.

Takes Three of Four During Weekend
Posted 5-1-05 - The #15 ranked
MATC Baseball team won three-out-of-four games in two doubleheaders
this weekend. On Saturday, April 30, MATC traveled to Moline,
IL to take on Black Hawk College. MATC split the doubleheader
with the host Braves. On Sunday, MATC dominated the visiting
Kishwaukee College Kougars, winning by a combined 24-0.
FIRST GAME - MATC-2, Black Hawk
College-3
In the first game, Chris Spangler took the loss despite
not giving up an earned run and striking out six batters. Black
Hawk College scored three runs in the second inning and held
on to beat the WolfPack. Craig Nyborg went 1-for-3 and drove
in a run while Kevin Wagner went 1-2.
SECOND GAME - MATC-6, Black Hawk
College-0
In the second game, Brandon Duffy pitched a complete
game shutout, only giving up two hits and striking out five
batters. The win is Duffy's fifth straight this season and
his current ERA is 1.25. Troy Vesling went 3-for-4 and Ron
Lindahl went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in the win.
FIRST GAME - MATC-16, Kishwaukee
College-0
In the first home game, against new MATC head coach,
Mike Davenport's old team, MATC bats were on fire. MATC went
15-for-29 as a team and scored 16 runs in the 16-0 rout. Dan
Plens pitched four scoreless innings and Ryan VandenPlas got
the final three outs as Kishwaukee was held to only three hits.
Ron Lindahl went 3-for-3 and Joel Hoberg went 2-for-4 with
3 RBIs as five players had two or more hits.

In the second game, MATC once again dominated as Brett
Scarpetta pitched five innings, striking out eight batters
in five scoreless innings. Paul Lennart went 3-for-4 with 2
RBIs and Blaine Rutledge went 1-for-1, driving in three runs.

Beats Triton College at Home

MATC Baseball team won both games against Triton College
at home to push their overall record to 34-12. MATC has
won nine of their last ten games.

In
the first game, Brett pitched five innings and struck out three
batters on his way to his fourth win of the season. Troy Vesling
went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs while Blaine Rutledge
also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
SECOND GAME - MATC-5, Triton College-4
In
the second game, Kelby Mack got his third straight win after
a shaky start. He pitched four innings and struck out two batters.
Matt Holzhueter also picked up his eighth save of the season.
Craig Nyborg went 3-for-3 and drove in one run in the win.

Wins Conference Title with Sweep
Posted 4-23-05 - MATC won two
games by a total of 33-12 to sweep Milwaukee Area Technical
College on Saturday, April 23rd. With the sweep, MATC claimed
the conference title by going undefeated (12-0) this season.

In the first game, Ryan VandenPlas claimed his first
college victory by pitching five innings and only giving up
two earned runs. Brandon Duffy came in in relief and struck
out two batters in two hitless innings of work. Blaine Rutledge
went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
SECOND GAME - MATC-22, Milwaukee
Tech-8
In the second game, MATC scored a season high 18 runs
in the second inning to cruise to a 22-8 win. Brian Dietzler
recorded his fourth win by pitching four innings and only giving
up one earned run. Blaine Rutledge and Michael Kuhn each went
3-for-3 with four RBIs. Brad Frank also went 3-for-3 with 3
RBIs.

Baseball team split a doubleheader with Waubonsee Community
College in Sugar Grove, IL.
FIRST GAME - MATC-9, Waubonsee CC-2
In
the first game, Brett Scarpetta pitched a complete game, striking
out nine batters on his way to his third win of the season.
Blaine Rutledge went 3-for-4 and drove in 3 RBIs while four
other batters had two hits as MATC broke the game open early,
scoring seven runs in the second inning.
SECOND GAME - MATC-4, Waubonsee
CC-8
In the second game, Dan Plens pitched five innings and
gave up two earned runs as MATC was behind 2-3 going into the
sixth inning. In the sixth, Waubonsee posted five runs. MATC
answered in the seventh with two runs but it was not enough
as they fell 4-8. Brody Wachter went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.

Stays Undefeated in Conference

Baseball team won two games against conference foe Western
WI Tech to stay undefeated (10-0) against conference opponents
this season.

In the first game, Kelby Mack pitched five innings and
gave up only one earned run on his way to his second win of
the sesaon. Clay Brabender came in in the the sixth and got
his first save in relief. Blaine Rutledge went 3-for-4 and
scored twice while Kyle Meyer drove in two runs on his 2-for-4
afternoon. Tyler Schill also went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

In the second game, Matt Niffenegger struck out four
batters and gave up only two earned runs in six innings of
work. Brad Frank went 3-for-3 with an RBI while Matt Holzhueter
and Brody Wachter each went 2-for-3.

Cruises to Wins Over Rock Valley CC

WolfPack Baseball team cruised to a pair of wins over host
Rock Valley Community College in Rockford, IL.
FIRST GAME - MATC-10, Rock Valley

In the first game, Chris Spangler extended his undefeated
record to 5-0 as he posted his second shutout and second complete
game of the season, pitching five innings and only giving up
two hits. Blaine Rutledge went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs
playing second base. Craig Nyborg went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs
in the win.
SECOND GAME - MATC-15, Rock Valley
CC-1
In the second game, MATC again dominated. Brandon Duffy
pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out five not giving up any
earned runs. MATC bats heated up as MATC scored nine runs in
the top of the seventh to put the game away. Joel Hoberg hit
a base clearing triple in the sixth inning to go 1-for-1 with
three RBIs. Brody Wachter went 4-for-5 with two RBIs.

Ends Winning Streak, Loses to #2

WolfPack Baseball team ended their eight game winning streak
as it lost two hard fought games to the #2 nationally ranked
Elgin Community College Spartans in Elgin, IL.
FIRST GAME - MATC-2, Elgin CC-4
In
the first game, the teams were tied going into the fourth inning
when Elgin scored three runs. MATC added another run in the
sixth but could not get any closer as MATC lost 2-4. Clay Brabender
got the loss in four innings of work. Craig Nyborg and Ron
Lindahl each went 2-for-3.
SECOND GAME - MATC-2, Elgin CC-3
In
the second game, it was another close game as both team took
a 2-2 tie into the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth,
Elgin scored one run to win. Dan Plens pitched 7.3 solid innings,
only giving up one earned run and striking out two batters.
Kevin Wagner and Joel Hoberg each had an RBI.

Cruises, Ranked #15 in Nation
Posted 4-13-05 - MATC beat Rock
Valley Community College 3-1 and 14-5 at home to extend
their current winning streak to eight games and their overall
record to 25-9. MATC has won 15 out of their last 16 games
and is currently leading the conference with an 8-0 record.
In the NJCAA
Division II Baseball poll, released on Wednesday, MATC
is ranked #15 in the nation.
FIRST GAME - MATC-3, Rock Valley
College-1
In the first game, undefeated three game winner, Brian
Dietzler from Wisconsin Rapids pitched a gem. He struck out
eleven batters and gave up no walks in six innings of work.
Matt Holzhueter pitched the seventh inning and received the
his seventh save of the season. Kyle Meyer and Joel Hoberg
each went 2-for-3 in the 3-1 win.
SECOND GAME - MATC-13, Rock Valley
College-8
In the second game, MATC received solid pitching from
righthander, Kelby Mack, back making his first start after
an injury that sidelined him last season. Mack pitched five
innings, striking out four batters and only giving up three
earned runs. MATC bats exploded in teh sixth inning and broke
the game open as the WolfPack scored seven runs. Troy Vesling
went 3-for-4 and had a season high four RBIs.

Sweeps Waukesha Tech
Posted 4-12-05 - MATC won two
games against Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee,
WI to extend their conference winning streak to eight games.
MATC is currently 8-0 against conference opponents and
23-9 overall.
FIRST GAME - MATC-4, Waukesha Tech-1
In the first game, MATC righthander, Chris Spangler improved
to 4-0 on the season as he pitched 6.6 innings, striking out
four and only giving up one earned run. Matt Holzhueter came
in to pick up his fifth save of the season. Craig Nyborg had
2 RBIs on 1-for-2 hitting.
SECOND GAME - MATC-7, Waukesha Tech-3
In
the second game, MATC was led by Matt Anderson's complete game.
Anderson (3-1) struck out two and only gave up two runs in
seven innings of work. After trailing by one run in the fifth
inning, MATC broke out for five runs in the top of the six
inning. Brody Wachter went 3-for-5 with two RBIs while MATC's
catching tandem of Jon Deck and Kevin Wagner combined to hit
4-for-4.

Wins Four During Weekend Games
Posted 4-11-05 - MATC won four games during the weekend
to push their overall record to 21-9 and put their conference mark at 6-0.
On Saturday, April 9th, MATC beat conference rival, Milwaukee
Area Technical College, twice to maintain their undefeated
record in conference play.
FIRST GAME - MATC-14, Milwaukee Tech-4
In
the first game against Milwaukee, MATC won 14-4 in five innings
as Brian Dietzler struck out four batters on his way to his
first win of the season. Joel Hoberg and Troy Vesling each
went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
SECOND GAME - MATC-13, Milwaukee Tech-3
In
the second game, MATC won 13-3 in five innings as Matt Niffenegger
won his third game of the year in four innings of work. Kyle
Meyer and Blaine Rutledge each had 3 RBIs. and Brody Wachter
went 3-for-3 as the WolfPack cruised to their sixth straight
conference victory.
On Sunday, April 10th, MATC
faced Mike Davenport's past team, Kishwaukee College and
won both games.

In
the first game, MATC got one run in the top of the seventh
inning to break up a 6-6 tie and win 7-6. Dan Plens got his
third win of the season while both Kyle Meyer and Troy Vesling
went 2-for-4.
SECOND GAME - MATC-4, Kishwaukee College-0
In
the second game, Brett Scarpetta, an 18th round draft pick
of the Chicago White Sox, pitched a complete game shutout.
On his way to the shutout, he struck out seven batters and
gave up only four hits. Brody Wachter continued his hot hitting
by going 2-for-3.

doubleheader with Highland CC on Thursday, April 7th in
Freeport, IL.
FIRST GAME - MATC-2, Highland CC-1
In the first game, MATC scored two runs in the fourth inning
and that was all they needed as Dan Plens pitched a complete
game giving up only four hits and one runs. Plens struck out
five batters and improved to 2-2 on the season. MATC got two
of their four hits from hot hitting, Kyle Meyer who went 2-for-3
with one RBI. MATC extended their winning streak to seven games.
SECOND GAME - MATC-4, Highland CC-5
In
the second game, MATC lost a ten-inning thriller as Highland
scored one run in the bottom of the tenth to hand MATC a loss,
4-5. Six MATC pitchers pitched in the game and Matt Niffenegger
received his first loss of the season. Craig Nyborg went 1-for-2
and Nick Hein went 1-for-1 and each had an RBI in the hard
fought loss.

Posted 4-5-05 - MATC won two
games, 10-0, against conference opponent, Western WI Technical
College at Robin Roberts Baseball Field. The win extends
MATC's conference record to 4-0 and their current winning
streak to six games.

In the first game, Clay Brabender got his third win of
the season as held the Cavaliers scoreless in his five innings
of work. Kyle Meyer went 3-for-5 and scored two runs while
Craig Nyborg and Matt Holzhueter each went 2-for-4 and drove
in two runs in MATC's third conference win. Brad Frank also
went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
SECOND GAME - MATC-10, Western WI
Tech-0
In the second game, Chris Spangler pitched a six shutout
innings, striking out seven batters. Spangler improved to 3-0
on the season. Kyle Meyer had a hit and drove in two runs pitch
hitting in the sixth. Brad Frank added two more RBIs as he
went 1-for-3. Paul Lennart went 2-for-3 and drove in one as
MATC cruised to their second 10-0 win.

Wins Four out of Last Six Games
Posted 4-4-05 - MATC has won
four out of their last six games and have improved their
overall record to 14-8.
On Thursday, March 31st, MATC lost both games of the doubleheader
to Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL (6-11, 1-4).
On Saturday, April 2nd, MATC faced Waukesha County Technical
College in their first conference matchup of the season. MATC
won 7-5 and 7-2 in their conference home debut.
On Sunday, April 3rd, MATC traveled to Oglesby, IL to face
Illinois Valley CC. MATC cruised to a 10-1 and 6-0 wins

Posted 3-30-05 - The #12 nationally
ranked NJCAA Division II MATC Baseball team split their
home doubleheader debut with the pre-season #3 nationally
ranked NJCAA Division III Joliet Junior College Wolves.
FIRST GAME - MATC-5, Joliet JC-9
In the first game, MATC led 3-1 going into the fifth inning. In the fifth inning,
Joliet broke the game open scoring 6 runs. Brett Scarpetta gave up five earned
runs and received the loss. Joel Hoberg went 2-for-3 and had one RBI in the
loss.
SECOND GAME - MATC-6, Joliet JC-5
In the second game, MATC scored six runs and led 6-3 going into the final inning.
Joliet scored two in the seventh but it was not enough as Matt Holzhueter
got his second save of the season. Brandon Duffy earned the win and improved
his overall record to 2-0 as he gave up five hits and no earned runs over
5.3 innings pitched. Joel Hoberg once again went 2-for-3 in the win.

Loses to talented South Florida CC
Posted 3-24-05 - MATC lost both
games of their doubleheader today to a talented South Florida
CC team. With the losses, MATC fell to 9-5 overall and
are currently
8-4 on the Florida trip.
FIRST GAME - MATC-2, South Florida

In the first game, South Florida came out swinging by scoring 12 runs in the
first four innings. Matt Anderson lost his first game in two years giving up
12 runs on 15 hits. Kyle Meyer went 2-for-4 and drove in one. South Florida
pitcher, Jesse Litsch did it all as he pitched in six inning only giving up
two hits. Offensively, Litsch went 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle.

In the second game, MATC scored first in the third inning putting one run on
the board. MATC held that lead until the fifth inning when South Florida scored
three runs in the fifth. They added one run an inning later. MATC lost 1-4
despite playing tough. Troy Vesling and Brad Frank went 2-for-3 and Trevor
Coogan went 2-for-4 in the loss. Dan Plens pitched a great complete game but
got the loss.
MATC Wins Two Against NAIA School

games of their doubleheader today as they beat
NAIA Indiana University Southeast at the Wide World of
Sports Complex in Disney World. With
the wins, MATC improved to 9-3 overall and an impressive
8-2 thus far on the Florida trip.

In the first game, MATC scored all of its runs in the fourth
inning and held on as Clay Brabender pitched five innings,
striking out three and only giving up one earned run. Matt
Holzhueter earned the save in two innings of work. Tyler
Schill went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
SECOND GAME - MATC-6, Indiana Univ.

In the second game, MATC was led by the pitching of second year player, Matt
Niffenegger's complete game shutout. In seven innings of work, Niffenegger
struck out one an only gave up five hits to record MATC's first shutout of
the season. Blaine Rutledge was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Kevin Wagner was 1-for-2
with two RBIs.

Loses to NJCAA D. I Seminole CC
Posted 3-22-05 - MATC lost today's
game against NJCAA Division I Seminole Community College
after winning their last six games. Brett Scarpetta got the
loss, pitching four innings and giving up seven earned runs.
MATC got on the board first with a sole homerun by second
basemen, Craig Nyborg.
MATC fell behind in the fourth inning
as they gave up five runs. Seminole CC added eight more
runs on 15 hits to beat the WolfPack 2-13. Matt Holzhueter
went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and catcher, Jon Deck was 1-for-1.
MATC fell to 7-3 but is still 6-2 on its challenging Florida
trip.
MATC Wins Sixth Straight Game
Posted 3-21-05 - MATC won both
games of their doubleheader for the third straight day as
they beat Webber International University JV at Babson Park,
Florida and the rain. With the wins, MATC improved to 7-2
overall.

In the first game, MATC battled back from a 0-2 deficit in the third inning
with a four run fourth inning. MATC added one more run in the fifth inning
and won 5-2. Chris Spangler recorded the win by pitching in five innings and
striking out four batters. Blaine Rutledge went 3-for-4 while Craig Nyborg
went 2-for-3 and had 3 RBIs. Matt Holzhueter finished off Webber in the seventh
inning by striking out 2 of 3 batters in relief.

In the second game, MATC came out swinging as the posted six runs in the first
inning and one run in the second to cruise to a 7-3 win before the skies opened
up. The game was called in the seventh due to lighting. Brian Dietzler pitched
5.6 innings giving up only one earned run and striking out three batters. Joel
Hoberg went 4-for-4 while Blain Rutledge had three RBIs.

Dominates Morton College
Posted 3-20-05 - MATC won both
games of their doubleheader for the second straight day as
they beat Morton College at Babson Park, Florida. MATC improved
to 5-2 overall as they look forward to a doubleheader versus
NAIA Webber International University tomorrow.

In the first game, MATC bats were on fire as they scored 16 runs on 18 hits.
Joel Hoberg and Blaine Rutledge each went 3-for-4 and had 3 RBIs while Troy
Vesling and Kyle Meyer each went 2-for-2 and had 2 RBIs as MATC scored nine
runs in the fourth inning to break the game open. Dan Plens pitched four innings,
only giving up one run to earn the win.

MATC once again hit the ball well, scoring eight runs in the first three innings.
Joel Hoberg went 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs as MATC had 12 hits and scored 10 runs.
Brandon Duffy pitched five scoreless innings and struck out five batters in
an impressive outing.

III Dutchess Community College (NY) at the Wide World of
Sports Complex in Disney World. With the wins, MATC improved
to 3-2 overall.

Joel Hoberg had 4 RBIs on 3-for-4 hitting and Craig Nyborg and Matt Holzhueter
each were 2-for-4 as MATC put 15 runs on the board including seven runs in
the first inning. Blaine Rutledge and Ron Lindahl each had 3 RBIs as well.
Clay Brabender won his first game of the season striking out two in four innings
of work.

MATC broke the game open in the third inning by scoring four runs. Brad Frank
and Kyle Meyer were 2-for-2 and combined for four RBIs in the 7-4 win. Matt
Anderson pitched a complete game and earned his eight straight collegiate victory
and first of this season.
MATC Baseball Loses to Florida College
Posted 3-18-05 - MATC Baseball got a chance
to knock some rust off and get used to the weather in their
first game in Florida. MATC gave up seven runs in the fifth
inning as they lost, 3-12, to Florida College in Tampa, FL.
Matt Holzhueter, a second year players from Waterloo H.S.,
went 2-for-5 and also pitched in one inning striking out
two batters.
MATC Baseball Ranked #12 in Nation
Posted 3-14-05 - The
MATC Baseball team is ranked #12 in the nation in
the pre-season NJCAA Division II Baseball poll. MATC
leaves for their Florida Spring Training trip on
Thursday, March 17th. The team is scheduled to
play thirteen games against stiff competition over
eight days.
MATC Baseball Begins Season with
Split
Posted 3-14-05 - It is that time
of year again... MATC Baseball is starting and spring is
around the corner. MATC Baseball
has already played two games. On Sunday, March 6th,
MATC played a doubleheader against Joliet Junior College in Joliet,
Illinois. MATC split the season opening series losing
the first game 2-3 and winining the second game 7-2.
March 6 - vs. Joliet JC (2-3 L, 7-2 W)
In the
first game, MATC fell behind early as Joliet scored three runs
in the first two innings. MATC scored two runs in the
fifth inning to close the gap but could not get any closer. Clay
Brabender got the loss as MATC fell 2-3 in the season opening
game.
In
the second game, MATC's Troy Vesling picked up where
he left off last season. Vesling went 2-for-4 with
4 RBIs as MATC opened up the game early, scoring six
runs in the first three innings to lead 6-2. MATC
would add another run in the fifth as they cruised to
a 7-2 win. MATC righthander, Chris Spangler, picked
up the win for the WolfPack. Spangler pitched
in three and two-thirds innings and only gave up two
hits while striking out three batters.
MATC Asst. Named Mallards Head
Coach
Posted 10-26-04 - The
Madison Mallards recently named Madison native and current MATC
assistant baseball coach C.J. Thieleke head coach for the 2005
season. Thieleke who is currently in his first season as an MATC
assistant coach has served as an assistant coach with the Mallards
the past two seasons. In addition to coaching first base, Thieleke
worked as the hitting and infield coach for the Mallards the
past two seasons.
Mike Goetz receives All-American Honors

- Mike Goetz, starting
outfielder for the Madison Area Technical College Baseball
team and former Franklin H.S. athlete, became the eleventh
All-American in MATC Baseball history and the first MATC Baseball
player since 2001 to receive All-American honors. Goetz received
second team All-American honors in his second season at MATC.
Goetz, a two-year starter, led the team in hitting this season
with a .407 batting average and stolen bases with 29 of 33 attempts.
Goetz currently ranks first all-time in career triples, second
all-time in career hits, second all-time in career stolen bases,
and third all-time in career batting average. He is currently
playing in the Northwoods League for the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
MATC Places Three Players
on Northwoods League Rosters
Posted 6-2-04 - Three MATC Baseball
players will be on Northwoods League rosters as the season
begins today.
The Madison Mallards signed MATC lefthanded pitcher, Major
League draftee, and former Portage H.S. athlete, Shaun Corning
as they made final roster alterations before opening day. Corning
has been a dominating pitcher for MATC the last two seasons.
Additionally, MATC second year players,
pitcher Rick Cavaiani and centerfielder Mike Goetz will play
for the Wisconsin Woodchucks this summer. Cavaiani, a former
Appleton North H.S. athlete, led MATC with 87 strikeouts in
84 inning pitched this year. He compiled an 8-4 record and
was a key pitcher down the stretch for the WolfPack. Goetz
has been MATC’s best offensive
player the last two seasons. His .413 career batting average
places him third all-time in MATC Baseball history. The Woodchucks,
coached by MATC assistant baseball coach, Darin Everson, open
the season at home (Wausau, WI) versus the Madison Mallards.

Davenport has been named the new MATC head baseball
coach. Davenport, who is leaving his alma mater, Kishwaukee
College, and a successful NJCAA Divison I baseball
program, will lead the NJCAA Division II MATC Baseball
