MATC Loses in Region Final
Posted 3-5-05 - In the NJCAA Region XIII Final, the MATC Men played tough against the #2 ranked team in the nation, Minneapolis Community & Technical College. MATC jumped out to a 30-29 halftime lead as they were looking to advance to the national tournament for the first time since 1986. In the second half, Minneapolis heated up, shooting 75% from the field and outscoring the WolfPack 30-43. MATC could not overcome the hot shooting by host Minneapolis as they lost 60-72. Nick Ramsden led MATC in scoring with 19 points and Jeff Wood pitched in 10 points. Brandon Watkins hit a three-pointer at the buzzer. The MATC Men finished the season with a stellar 27-7 overall record.

MATC Wins, Plays for National Tourney
Posted 3-5-05 - The MATC Men played tough in the semifinal game of the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament on Friday night. Led by former Poynette H.S. athele, Justin Hustad's 15 points MATC battled to a 61-58 win. With the win, MATC advances to the Region Final (Saturday, March 5th) against the #2 team in the nation, Minneapolis Community & Technical College. Jason Flowers added 14 points as MATC improved to 27-6 overall. MATC is looking to advance to the national tournament for the first time since 1986.

MATC Men Play in Region Tournament
Posted 3-3-05 - The MATC Men will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIII Tournament on Friday-Saturday, March 4-5.

The MATC Men (26-6) are playing Ridgewater College in Minneapolis, MN in the four-team region tournament. If they win, they will play on Saturday for the right to advance to the national tournament in Delhi, NY for the first time since 1986.

MATC Loses to WTCC Rival in Semifinals
Posted 2-26-05 - The MATC Men trailed 29-33 at halftime and could never fully recover as they struggled shooting from the field and Mid-State's Dejuante Wade had his way. Wade poured in 29 points and pulled down 19 rebounds for the Cougars. In their fourth meeting of the year, MATC fell 64-71. The loss was MATC's only state junior college loss of the season and first against the Cougars. MATC's Justin Hustad, a former Poynette H.S. athlete had 18 points while teammates Jeff Wood had 16 points and Jason Flowers had 12 points in the WJCAA State Semifinal loss.

MATC Advances with Hard Fought Win
Posted 2-23-05 - The MATC Men advanced to the WJCAA State Tournament with a hard fought 81-72 win over the visiting Western WI Technical College Cavaliers. MATC improved their mark over state junior college opponents to an impressive 20-0. MATC was led by former Stoughton athlete, Nick Ramsden's fourth double-double of the season as he scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Three other WolfPack players were in double-figures as MATC shot almost 54% from the field and held on down the stretch.

MATC Routs UW-Richland, Moves On
Posted 2-21-05 - MATC cruised to a 72-46 win over UW-Richland in the first round of the WJCAA State Playoffs. Jason Flowers led all scorers with 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field. Nick Ramsden contributed 12 points and Justin Hustad added 11 points as MATC improved to 19-0 against state junior college opponents. MATC advances to the second round of the WJCAA State Playoffs on Wednesday, February 23rd at home versus Western WI Technical College at 7:30 PM.

MATC Beats Mid-State 3rd Time, Advance
Posted 2-16-05 - The MATC Men beat the visiting Cougars, 63-46, for the third straight time this season as Blake Kuchta led the WolfPack with a career high 24 points. Jason Flowers and Jeff Wood each pitched in 12 points as the WolfPack advanced to the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament, March 4-5 in Minnesota (winner of the Region Tournament advances to the National Championship). MATC shot 50% from the field and over 77% from the free throw line as they poured it on in the second half. The win pushed the WolfPack's record over state junior college teams to 18-0.

MATC Beats Western, Advance
Posted 2-14-05 - With the 98-74 win over Western WI Technical College, MATC advances to the second round of the NJCAA WI Regional Playoffs on Wednesday versus Mid-State Technical College at MATC at 7:30 PM . The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in Minnesota on March 4-5. In tonight's game, Jason Flowers powered the WolfPack with 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Jeff Wood pitched in with his second straight double-double pouring in 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Blake Kuchta and Leslie Wilkinson each contributed in double-figures as MATC went to 17-0 against state junior college competition.

MATC Goes Undefeated in WTCC, WJCAA
Posted 2-9-05 - The MATC Men completed an impressive regular season with an 83-70 win over conference foe, Waukesha County Technical College. The WolfPack finished the season undefeated in conference play (8-0), claiming the Wisconsin Technical College Conference title outright for the first time since 2002. MATC also went undefeated against state junior college competition (16-0). In Wednesday night's game at Waukesha, MATC shot almost 49% from the field and Jeff Wood led all scorers with 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Three other players contributed in double-figures.

MATC Beats Milwaukee Tech, Wins WTCC
Posted 2-5-05 - The MATC Men beat Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday in Milwaukee 88-83 to claim the Wisconsin Technical College Conference title outright for the first time since 2002. Without centers, Nick Ramsden and Trevor Newman, both out with injuries, MATC stepped it up. Jason Flowers and Black Kuchta led the WolfPack with 19 points. Three other players contributed in double-figures including Leslie Wilkinson, Justin Hustad, and Jeff Wood. MATC shot an impressive 86% from the line, pulling away in the second half.

MATC Men Claim Share of Conference Title
Posted 2-2-05 - The MATC Men clinched a share of the conference title with a 92-83 win over second place conference opponent, Mid-State Technical College. Sixth players were in double-figures as Blake Kuchta led the way with 20 points. Jacob Keller and Trevor Newman combined for 25 points off the bench as MATC shot a scorching 68% from the field in the second half. With the win, MATC improves their conference record to 6-0 and has a two game lead in the conference standings.

MATC Men Get Big Conference Victory
Posted 1-31-05 - The MATC Men won their fifth straight conference game and thirteeth straight against a state junior college opponent. Jason Flowers hit two key free throws to close out the game for the WolfPack. MATC-Madison won 71-70 over the visiting MATC-Milwaukee Stormers. Justin Hustad had 17 points and Jeff Wood had a double-double adding 14 points and 10 rebounds. MATC improved to 19-5 overall and will have two more conference games this week.

MATC Men Win Sixth Straight Game
Posted 1-29-05 - MATC's Nick Ramsden led all scorers with 18 points as the WolfPack cruised to their sixth straight win and twelveth straight victory against a state junior college team. Jason Flowers and Black Kuchta each had 12 points as MATC won 85-63 against the UW-Baraboo Rattlers. MATC's Brandon Watkins, a former athlete from Milwaukee Madison, had seven points going 3/3 from the field and 1/1 from beyond the arc in just 4:53.

MATC Men Take Second Half, Win Game
Posted 1-26-05 - After shooting 37% from the field in the first half the MATC Men heated up in the second half scorching the nets by shooting over 60% from the field. MATC cruised in the second half to a 94-73 win over conference opponent, Western WI Technical College. Former Poynette H.S. athlete, Justin Hustad led MATC with 22 points. Three other WolfPack players were in double-figures including Jason Flowers (16 pts.), Jeff Wood (15 pts.) and Blake Kuchta (10 pts.). With the win, MATC went to 4-0 in the conference and sit alone in first place.

MATC Men Cruise Past UW-Richland
Posted 1-25-05 - The MATC Men jumped out to a 47-32 halftime lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 91-56 win versus UW-Richland in Richland Center, WI. The win pushed their record versus state junior colleges to 10-0 and their overall record to 16-5. Jason Flowers led the way with 15 points and Nick Ramsden recorded his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

MATC Men Beat UW-Waukesha
Posted 1-20-05 - The MATC Men pulled away in the second half, outscoring the visiting Cougars 42-29 to recorded a resounding 80-55 win. MATC, led by Jeff Wood's 19 point and 11 rebound double-double, outrebounded the Cougars 48-35, including 24 offensive rebounds. Blake Kuchta had 14 points while Jason Flowers added 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. The MATC Men improved to 9-0 against state junior college competition.

MATC Wins Third Straight WTCC Game
Posted 1-15-05 - The MATC Men claimed their third straight conference victory with an impressive 77-70 win against a talented Mid-State Technical College team on their home floor in Wisconsin Rapids. MATC was led by Nick Ramsden's 20 points and 7 rebounds. Three other MATC players were in double-figures including Jason Flowers (16 pts.), Blake Kuchta (12 pts.), and Justin Hustad (11 pts.). Mid-State's Dejuante Wade, former Wisconsin Badger Boo Wade's cousin, poured in 34 points in the loss. The MATC Men are now 14-5 overall and 3-0 in conference.

MATC Scores 114 Points in Conference Win
Posted 1-12-05 - The MATC Men scored a season high 114 points against the visiting Owls 79 to claim their second conference victory. Six WolfPack players scored in double-figures. Former Madison LaFollette athlete, Jason Flowers and Stoughton athlete, Jeff Wood each had 19 points. Nick Ramsden pitched in 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

MATC Men Claim First Conference Win
Posted 1-8-05 - In their first conference matchup of the year, MATC downed host Western WI Technical College, 89-69. The win pushed MATC's overall record to 12-5 with an undefeated 6-0 mark against state junior college competition. Trevor Newman, a former Middleton H.S. athlete, led five WolfPack players in double-figures as MATC claimed their first conference victory.

MATC Men Win One, Lose Two in Arizona
Posted 1-5-05 - The MATC Men won one game and lost two games in Arizona. MATC played against top competition.

MATC Men Win One, Lose One at Gogebic
Posted 12-18-04 - The MATC Men won one and lost one at the Gogebic Community College Tournament on December 17-18.

In the first game, against Gogebic, MATC trailed by only one point at half but could not keep it close in the second half as the Samons outscored the WolfPack 55-42 down the stretch. MATC lost 82-96 despite a breakout performance from Devon Johnson. Johnson had 19 points off the bench for the WolfPack. Jeff Wood, Justin Hustad and Blake Kuchta also reached double-figures.

In the second game, MATC outmatched their opponent as they crushed Northland College JV. 80-42. Jacob Keller led all scorers with 15 points. Zach Lindert and Rykker Erickson each added 10 points in the win.

MATC Men Pound UW-Rock County
Posted 12-8-04 - The MATC Men pounded UW-Rock County 90-68 to win their fourth straight game and fifth straight against state junior college competition. Four WolfPack players including Trevor Newman, Justin Hustad, Jeff Woods, and Blake Kuchta scored in double-figures in the win. Kuchta led all scorers with 24 points.

Men Win 3rd Straight versus UW-Marathon
Posted 12-7-04 - The MATC Men attacked the Huskies early and jumped out to a 38-20 halftime lead. They cruised to their third straight win with the help of former Pulaski H.S. athlete, Blake Kuchta's 15 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Wood added 14 points and seven rebounds as MATC won 75-51 for their third straight win against state junior college competition.

Men Win in Overtime for Second Straight Game
Posted 12-4-04 - The MATC Men won 63-59 in overtime for the second straight game pushing their overall record to 7-2 and their record against Illinois teams to 4-1. MATC outscored the host Golden Eagles 9-5 in overtime with the help of former Stoughton H.S. athlete, Nick Ramsden's 16 point effort. Fellow Stoughton alum, Jeff Wood added 14 points.

Men Win Close Game against UW-Baraboo
Posted 11-23-04 - The MATC Men traveled to Baraboo to play the UW-Baraboo Rattlers on Tuesday, November 23rd. The game was close throughout as the teams were tied at 65 at the end of regulation. In the extra session, MATC outscored the Rattlers 12-6 to claim their sixth win. Three WolfPack players including Blake Kuchta (16 pts.), Jeff Wood (15 pts.), and Justin Hustad (15 pts.) pitched in double-figures in the 77-71 victory.

Men Lose Close Game to Division I Team
Posted 11-20-04 - MATC played tough against a talented NJCAA Division I Sauk Valley team but could not hold off a late Skyhawks surge. MATC led 38-35 at halftime but Sauk Valley outscored the WolfPack 38-29 in the second half. MATC's Justin Hustad, a former Poynette H.S. athlete, led all scorers with 21 points and eight rebounds. Jacob Keller, a former Richland Center H.S. athlete, added 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

MATC Men Beat UW-Richland
Posted 11-17-04 - Blake Kuchta, a former Pulaski H.S. athlete, led three WolfPack players in double-figures, scoring 18 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Former Stoughton H.S. athletes, Jeff Wood and Nick Ramsden also contributed double figures. Wood added 16 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists while Ramsden added 17 points and six rebounds. The MATC Men are now 2-0 against state junior college competition.

MATC Men Place Third at Tournament
Posted 11-15-04 - At the 2004 WolfPack Classic, the MATC Men lost a tight first game despite Blake Kuchta, a former Pulaski H.S. athlete, leading all scorers with 24 points and Jeff Wood adding 18 points. The host WolfPack fell 74-76 to Rochester.

In the third place game, MATC bounced back as four WolfPack players scored in double-figures. Led by Jeff Wood's 21 points, MATC outscored Joliet 48-38 in the second half to claim third place with a 83-76 win over Joliet Junior College.

MATC Men Win Waubonsee Tournament
Posted 11-6-04 - The MATC Men won the Waubonsee CC Tournament for the first time with two exciting wins over St. Francis JV and St. Xavier JV. In the first game, MATC stole the ball and tied the game with three seconds left to go in regulation to force overtime. In overtime, MATC outscored St. Francis 15-8 to win by the score of 95-88. Blake Kuchta, a former Pulaski H.S. athlete, led the way with 20 points while teammates, Jeff Wood and Nick Ramsden recorded double-doubles and Trevor Newman pitched in 19 points.

In the championship game versus St. Xavier JV, MATC jumped out to a 39-34 halftime lead. MATC held off a late St. Xavier run and won 81-77. Blake Kuchta and Jacob Keller led MATC with 14 points each. Justin Hustad pulled down 11 rebounds. With the win, MATC claimed the program's first tournament title.

MATC Wins Home Opener versus UW-Rock
Posted 11-3-04 - In Scot Vesterdahl's first game as MATC head coach since the 1998-99 season the WolfPack took it to the visiting UW-Rock County Rattlers. In MATC's home debut, four MATC players scored in double-figures and former Stoughton H.S. athlete, Jeff Wood, recorded a double-double (18 pts., 15 reb.).

MATC Hires Scot Vesterdahl as new Head Men's Basketball Coach
Posted 3-20-04 - MATC is pleased to annouce Scot Vesterdahl as the new Head Men's Basketball Coach. Vesterdahl replaces former MATC Head Coach John Verhelst. Verhelst announced his retirement from coaching at the end of the season.

Vesterdahl has coached Stoughton H.S. for the last three seasons. Prior to coaching Stoughton H.S., Vesterdahl coached at MATC. At MATC, from 1997-99, his teams combined for a 60-29 overall record and won two consecutive state and conference championships.
