Basketball Player Recieves Academic All-American Honor
Posted 7-23-04 - Rachel Davis, a first year
Madison Area Technical College Women’s Basketball player,
was recently selected NJCAA Academic All-American. Davis,
a 5-11 center from Sheboygan South H.S., also received Wisconsin
Technical College Conference distinguished academic honors
this season.

Women Lose in Region XIII-A Title Game
Posted 3-5-04 - The MATC Women
hung tough against a quick Minneapolis team only trailing
by two points at halftime. The Minneapolis quickness
proved too much in the second half as the visiting Marauders
blocked 7 shots and forced 14 steals. MATC fell 61-73.
Jody Henze had her fourth postseason double-double scoring
22 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. With the win, Minneapolis
advances to the 2004 NJCAA Division III National Tournament
in Corning, NY.
MATC Women advance
to Region XIII Championship Game
Posted 3-3-04 - The state champion MATC
Women's Basketball team (23-5 Overall, 13-1 WJCAA, 4-0 WTCC)
advanced to the NJCAA Region XIII-A championship game with
an convincing 95-43 win over conference opponent Western WI Technical College.
Former Deforest H.S. athlete, Jody Henze led four players in double-figures
with 20 points. Former Madison East athlete, Mackenzie
Navarro added 19 points. MATC Claims First State Title Since
1999
Posted 2-24-04 - The MATC Women's Basketball team (22-5 Overall, 12-1 WJCAA,
4-0 WTCC) claimed the school's thirteenth women's state basketball title and
their first since 1999 with a 71-56 win over UW-Marathon in the WJCAA State
Championship game on Sunday, February 22 at MATC.

@ MATC - The MATC Women won the state title for
the first time since 1999 with a 71-56 win over UW-Marathon.
Jody Henze, a former Deforest H.S. athlete, led all scorers
with 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her third
straight post-season double-double. Nickie Weber added
14 points and dished out 5 assists.
February 21 - WJCAA State Semifinal - vs. UW-Waukesha
@ MATC -
The MATC Women advanced to the 2004 WJCAA
State Tournament Final with an exciting 75-64 win over the
top team in the state, UW-Waukesha. Jody Henze poured in
a season high 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds on her
way to her second straight double-double. MATC outrebounded
the Cougars 52-41 as Katie Vossekuil pulled down a game high
11 rebounds.
February 18 - WJCAA Playoff - vs. UW-Richland @ MATC
- The MATC Women advanced to the 2004 WJCAA State
Tournament with a 90-47 win over the visiting UW-Richland
Roadrunners. Jody Henze scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds
and former Waunakee H.S. athlete, Katie Schuren added 16
points as the WolfPack cruised to victory. MATC
Claims Conference Title for Second Straight Year

ranked MATC Women’s
Basketball team (19-5 Overall, 9-1 WJCAA, 4-0 WTCC) claimed
their second
straight
conference title and finished the regular season with a
three-game winning streak. February 7 - vs. UW-Fond-du Lac - The MATC women jumped out
to a 47-12 lead at half and cruised to the 76-34 win. Jody
Henze, a former Deforest H.S. athlete, led all scorers with
16 points. Three other WolfPack players were in double-figures
including Tiffany Welsh (14 pts.), Katie Vossekuil (12 pts.)
and Mackenzie Navarro (10 pts.). February 9 - vs. Lakeland College JV - MATC forced 29 turnovers
and outrebounded the visiting Muskies to win 71-41. Jody Henze
had 21 points to lead all scorers. Nickie Weber, a former Madison
East athlete, added 12 points and 4 assists as the WolfPack
won their second straight game. February 11 - vs. Waukesha County Technical College - The
MATC Women claimed their second straight WTCC conference title
with a 106-20 rout of Waukesha County Tech. Jody Henze led
six players in double-figures with 20 points. Former Portage
H.S. athlete, Tiffany Welsh added 19 points on 4-for-4 shooting
from three-point territory. MATC
Wins One, Falls to #1 Teams in State & Nation
Posted 2-3-04 - The #10 nationally ranked MATC Women's Basketball team (16-5
Overall, 7-1 WJCAA, 3-0 WTCC) claimed their third conference win in as many tries
with a 94-53 rout of Western WI Technical College on January 29. MATC outscored
the host Cavaliers by 18 on their way to a 94-53 win. Five players were in double
figures for the WolfPack including Jody Henze (16 pts.), Tiffany Welsh (16 pts.),
Mackenzie Navarro (16 pts.), Nickie Weber (15 pts.), and Katie Schuren (11 pts.).
Jody Henze also pulled down 10 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season. The
MATC Women also played some stiff competition this last week. On Thursday,
January 29, they hosted the #1 ranked team in the nation, College of DuPage.
MATC came out in the first half with cold shooting, going 4-for-25 from
the field and trailed at half, 33-23. In the second half, MATC tried to
battle back but could not shut down the Chaparrals Mechelle Donald
as she scored 32 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. The
WolfPack Women lost 58-66. Jody Henze led MATC for the third straight
game with 18 points and pulled down 13 boards.
On Monday,
February 2, MATC faced UW-Waukesha (19-2), the top team in the state
of Wisconsin. MATC stuck with the visiting Cougars in the first half and
were only down one as they started the second. In the second half, the
Cougars took control as their uptempo offense allowed Amanda Ireland to
score 15 of her 30 points in the half. MATC fell 68-79. Jody Henze led
four of five WolfPack starters in double-figures with 19 points. Katie
Vossekuil recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points
and 12 rebounds.

Ranked #10 in Nation, Face #1 on Thursday
Posted 1-28-04 - The MATC Women's Basketball team (15-3 Overall, 6-0 WJCAA,
2-0 WTCC) was ranked #10 in the nation in the most recent NJCAA Division III
Women's Basketball Coaches Poll released on January 27. MATC will face #1 ranked
College of DuPage (15-3) from Glen Ellyn, IL, on Thursday at 5:30 PM in the H.
Douglas Redsten Gymnasium on the MATC-Truax Campus. The College of DuPage has
been the #1 ranked team in the country this entire season. MATC lost to Chaparrals
73-84 earlier this season, on December 11, in Glen Ellyn, IL. MATC Winning
Streak at Eight Games
Posted 1-28-04 - The MATC Women's Basketball
team (15-3 Overall, 6-0 WJCAA, 2-0 WTCC), currently ranked
#10 in the nation, is riding an eight game winning streak,
dating back to December 13th. In their most recent win, MATC
jumped out to a twenty-point halftime lead, 41-21 and cruised
to a 78-53 win. Jody Henze, a former Deforest H.S. athlete,
led all scorers with 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds. MATC
Women Win Streak at Seven
Posted 1-22-04 - The MATC Women's Basketball
team (14-3 Overall, 5-0 WJCAA, 2-0 WTCC) have won seven
straight games dating back to December 13th. On January
14th, the WolfPack Women claimed their second conference victory with a 90-19
thrashing of conference opponent, Waukesha County Technical College, 90-19.
MATC held the Owls to 11 halftime points and had five players
in double-figures. Katie Schuren and Nickie Weber each
had 15 points in the win.
On January 17th, MATC traveled to UW-Marshfield to face
the Mauraders in a replacement game. The game replaced
the conference game against Mid-State Technical College
after they cancelled their program for the season. MATC
jumped out to a 40-27 halftime lead and never looked
back as five players once again scored in double-figures.
This time, Tiffany Welsh and Jody Henze led the way with
14 points as MATC cruised to a 80-55 win and their seventh
straight victory.

Women Win Streak at Five
Posted 1-10-04 - The MATC Women's Basketball
team (12-3 Overall, 3-0 WJCAA, 1-0 WTCC) won their fourth
and fifth straight games last week. On January 8th, MATC
hosted UW-Marshfield. MATC jumped out to a 36-26 halftime
lead and never looked back. They extended their lead in
the second half, shooting over 56% from the field and beat
the visiting Marauders 80-48. Katie Vossekuil, a former
WBCA all-star for Central WI Christian, led all scorers
with 20 points.
In their second game of the week, on Saturday,
January 10th, the MATC Women faced conference opponent,
Western WI Technical College, at home. MATC claimed their
first conference win and improved on their undefeated
mark against state junior college competition with a 86-20
rout of Western WI Technical College. Katie Vossekuil led
the WolfPack for the second straight game recording her
third double-double of the season with 17 points and 13
rebounds.

Win Two Against Illinois Schools
Posted 1-8-04 - The MATC Women's Basketball
team (10-3 Overall, 2-0 WJCAA) won their last two games against
Illinois junior colleges. On December 20th, MATC traveled to
Des Plains, IL to face Oakton Community College. MATC, led
by second year player and former Madison East H.S. athlete,
Nickie Weber's 15 points, jumped out to a 30-19 halftime lead.
MATC did not look back as they shot 80% from beyond the arc
and also received 13 points from the team leading scorer, Jody
Henze. MATC won 66-37.
In the second game, on Monday, January 5th, the MATC Women faced
Kishwaukee Community College at home. MATC jumped out to a four
point halftime lead. In the second half, they took over by locking
down on defense. Jody Henze and Katie Vossekuil each added 20
points and recorded doulbe-doubles. Henze pulled down 11 rebounds
while Vossekuil grapped 10 rebounds. MATC outrebounded the visiting
Kougars 62 to 38.. MATC claimed their tenth win of the season
with a 78-54 victory.

Women Hangs Tough Against #1 DuPage, Win Against UW-Marathon
Posted 12-16-03 - The MATC Women's Basketball
team (8-3 Overall, 2-0 WJCAA) played the #1 ranked team in
the nation, College of DuPage on Thursday, December 11th. MATC
was propelled by, former Deforest H.S. athlete, Jody Henze's
season high 33 point and 18 rebound effort. MATC struggled
from the free throw line down the stretch, shooting just 53%
and could not close the gap with the College of DuPage. MATC
fell 73-84 to a talented DuPage team. In the second game of the week, on Saturday, December 13th,
MATC faced UW-Marathon in Wausau, WI. MATC jumped out to a
four point halftime lead. In the second half, they continued
to extend their lead with improved shooting from the free throw
line (77.8%). Jody Henze once again led all scorers with 20
points and added 10 rebounds to record her seventh double-double
of the season. Nickie Weber also added 14 points as MATC cruised
to a 65-47 win. MATC Women Battle it
Out At Home
Posted 12-3-03 - The MATC Women's Basketball team
(7-2) played in two home games prior to the Thanksgiving weekend.
In the first game, against Riverland Community College on November
22nd the WolfPack Women, like the MATC Men, came out firing,
shooting over 50% from the field in the first half to lead
48-27 going into halftime In the second half, MATC maintained
the lead and won 81-62. Jody Henze, led four WolfPack players
in double-figures as she poured in 22 points and pulled down
8 rebounds. Tiffany Welsh (14 pts.), Nickie Weber (12 pts.),
and Katie Schuren (12 pts.) all pitched in double-figure scoring in the win. In the second game, on Tuesday, November 25th, MATC faced an
athletic Lake Land College team. MATC jumped out to a eight
point halftime lead with good shooting. In the second half,
Lake Land closed the gap, converting on MATC turnovers, tying
the game at the end of regulation to force overtime. In overtime,
Lake Land scored the first six points and MATC could not recover,
losing by two, 65-67. Jody Henze led all scorers with 22 points
for the second straight game. Katie Vossekuil recorded her
first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. MATC Women Riding 5-Game
Win Streak
Posted 11-21-03 - The MATC Women's Basketball
team has also played five games in the last ten days, winning
all five games. Jody Henze, a transfer from Edgewood College,
has led the way by recording six straight double-doubles
(double figures in two statistical categories) in the first
six games of the season. She is currently averaging 18.2
PPG and 11.2 RPG over the first six games. The MATC Women
are currently 6-1 and undefeated (1-0) against state junior
college competition. Women Cruise to Win Over UW-Richland

- New MATC Head Women's Coach, Steve Bentin, a former
Madison West H.S. coach, won his MATC home debut. Nickie
Weber and Jody Henze led all scorers with 14 points. Henze
also pulled down 12 rebounds to record a double-double as
MATC cruised to a 76-37 win. The MATC Women are now
2-1 overall going into this weekend's MATC WolfPack Classic. |
